Here's something we can really agree on.

My wife recently backed into a camper and broke the left rear light on her car
(the big plastic parts that generally cost a fortune to replace). Instead of
heading for a garage, I checked the Internet and after some searching found a
replacement for EUR 50 including shipping. I bought it with my credit card and
it was delivered four days later. Replaced the plastic myself, car fixed. If I
had gone to a garage - or worse to Opel (it's an Opel Agila) - I expect the
bill would have been more like EUR 120. The interesting thing was that the same
part cost anywhere from EUR 50 to EUR 90 on different websites (same
manufactrurer, same make, same model).

So is is not only convenient to shop on the Internet, you can also save a great
deal of money that way.

Another example: My 1992 Mazda station wagon needs new gas struts for the rear
hatch (the things that hold the hatch up when you open it). They cost over EUR
120 EACH (one on each side) if you buy them from Mazda. I had to search longer
for these because practically every car and every model uses different ones,
but I finally found a company (a dealer on Ebay, of all places) offering a PAIR
(new, unusued) for EUR 70 plus EUR 5.96 shipping. I bought them, and they'll be
arriving next week.

I buy my ink and toner for printers on the Internet, and have only good
experience - you save money and it's very convenient. I also buy books on the
Internet (not just at Amazon), and both the selection and prices are good.

A couple of days ago, I wanted some English-language books (Mickey Spillane
thrillers, just for amusement) and found the cheapest way to get them was to
order via Amazon: there are American dealers who sell paperbacks for as little
as EUR 0.01 (plus the standard Amazon shipping of EUR 3.00) and ship them to
Germany. I assume they must send crates of books to Europe for distribution,
since the shipping would otherwise be much higher than the standard EUR 3.00 -
but this is sometimes the cheapest way of getting English-language books here
in Germany.

So I can agree with you here wholeheartedly: the Internet today is what the
telephone was yesterday.
