It also occurs to me that if there was an accident or problem of some sort with
the helicopter it would be virtually inaccessible sitting on top of the five
story
building.

In another post I noted that the USAF included a rooftop helipad when it built
an addition to the (since closed) Air Force hospital at Offutt AFB.  There's no
elevator that services it, and the stairwell is narrow and runs around the
inside
of a vertical cylinder - it's curved, not straight, and open down the middle
all the
way to the basement.  Plus the helipad is just about as far from the emergency
room as it could be and still be on the premises.  It would have made much more
sense to cut down or move a couple of trees across the street from the ER
entrance
and put the helipad there...
