 It's always been that way. Every generation, the previous generation complains
that they can't understand the words to the current generation's music.

I have the (odd?) ability to understand most of the lyrics to death metal on
the first listen through, but modern pop music will often confound me.

 Almost all of my friends play/played in various local metal bands in the area.
A good sound guy is very important and can make or break a band. Being the most
technically inclined, that job used to fall to me.  Unfortunately, as I've
gotten older I just can't deal with the loud sound anymore. My wife used to
manage/book for a couple bands and she had the same issue.  Really the only
times we go out now are to see 2 bands, consisting of nearly all the members of
our little groups of friends.  One is a two-person acoustic show that's usually
quiet enough to talk over, and the other is the larger version of that show
with an entire cover band.  Apparently cover bands are how musicians actually
make money while waiting to be 'discovered'.  Personally I prefer working,
probably due to my lack of any sort of musical talent (and some would even say
taste).

 Having been to packed movie theaters on opening night, I could complain of
just the opposite problem.  There's nothing quite like having hundreds of
smelly nerds crammed into a roasting theater for 2 1/2 hours. Oddly enough it
wasn't bad during some of the Star Wars premieres, but someone in a nearby row
during a recent Harry Poter film smelled like he/she hadn't bathed in a week.
The smell, mixed with the smell of popcorn was almost nauseating.  I wasn't
able to pinpoint where the malodorous scent was coming from, or I would have
complained to an usher.

Maybe I'm just used to the cold, as I've lived in Wisconsin my entire life, but
I find Movie theaters rather comfortable when they're not crammed full.
