One myth that has been perpetuated for decades is that the USA
has 70% of the world's lawyers.  While that can easily be disproven,
given that India alone has roughly the same number of lawyers as does
the USA, the fact remains there is no shortage of lawyers anywhere
in the USA.

The USA has the most lawyers per capita, the ratio in the USA
being 1 lawyer for every 265 Americans.  Brazil is #2 per capita,
having 1 lawyer for every 326 Brazilians.  Compare those numbers
with Japan, which has 1 lawyer for every 8,895 Japanese.  And
then there is Korea, with 1 lawyer for every 15,748 Koreans.
Not sure if North Koreans have any legal representation at all ...

Gerry Spence, a US lawyer, made that very same argument in one
of his books, citing court cases to back up his claim.  Mitt Romney
was more direct and to the point - "Corporations are people."

Be that as it may, there is a difference between having the most
lawyers per capita and being the most litigious country.  While it
may be true the USA leads the world in lawsuits (the USA accounts
for roughly half of all liability insurance sold in the world),
much smaller countries are also extremely litigious.  For example,
Ireland ranks number two in the world ...

Oh, every few decades the people rise up and shout, but are quickly
pacified when given a few crumbs, going back to sleep for another few
decades.  That is how the system works, as it has since the beginning
of time ...
