I don't think it is a matter of "scare".
 
The world now functions on "free trade" and "international agreements", the
best deterrent for armed conflicts.
 
Those "international agreements" however exclude what happened in the Crimea,
there are treaties that govern such things in order to keep stability and keep
the US$/Euro flowing.
 
By unilaterally going against such a signed and ratified global agreement,
Russia immediately casts a shadow on "all" the other treaties.
 
What we really don't like however is that first a dependancy is created on
Russian gas, and then that dependancy is turned into a weapon.
 
The real problem in Russia however is that its population is unfamiliar with
democracy. There has always been a despot, a tsar, a communist leader ... and I
don't think the country is ready for free-thinking and really free-elections.
The people still need somekind of a leader that will throw hand-outs to the
population.
 
You will know you are really free when you will be allowed to make fun of your
president and not sent to jail for several years. Laughing with the own
political system and a diversified opposition is a requirement ... you still
don't have that ... people making fun and opposition are jailed. Like in
Africa.
 
One of the main main problems of your society is that there is a middle-income
layer missing which we have in most countries in the west.

Wait until you run out ... that could be a long time ... of course.

That Black Sea fleet ... I don't think it is really worth the trouble ... in
order to exit it must clear the Bosphorus, that is so easy blocked. I don't
think the Black Sea port was a main incentive, just "nice to have".

Well, I do not understand the issues. It's too far from here and I do not trust
any of the media-companies to provide me with correct information.
 
International treaties have been violated, so much is certain.
 
But the people have spoken as well, so much is certain too.
 
I'm not saying I don't care, but is it all worth it to destabilize a large
portion of the world? It escapes me though why a group of people want to return
under a corrupt government, use a highly dysfunctional currency which cannot be
used as legal tender anywhere in the world ... when your government tells you
what you currency is worth while the rest of the world ignores it, you are in
trouble.
