If you were BORN, then SOME where there is a record of your `birth'.

Typically, the first `birth certificate' is free. Thats the one the doctor
and\or hospital issues on the day of your birth. If you have to go to the
Bureau of Statistics (or whatever the official entity is called where you were
born) and get a copy, it usually costs a small fee (I paid around $10 for
copies of mine back when my wife died and I needed a birth certificate to
prove `who' I was to various agencies. A phone call, some information that
only *I* would know, a mailed check...and `presto'!), and you recieve a `copy'
of that original document.

Fires happen, documents are lost or destroyed for many un-controlable reasons


That STILL leaves the *responsibility* to replace them on the shoulders of the
persons in question.


And the `cost' to replace them cannot be so prohibitive that only `rich'
people can afford it. If a person gets money from ANY source...they can afford
to replace important documents, like a birth certificate.

If you are `naturalized'...at some point you had to have made out a form I-90.
When you applied for an I-90 you had to furnish certain information. Your date
of birth was one of those items. If you are applying for `naturalization', you
must be at least 18 years old. In most all US states, the voting age is 18.

And in order to register to vote, a copy of your `naturalization' papers,
along with photo ID with your birth date on it should suffice.

There are two problems with people who come up with that `I don't have proof
of age, I can't GET my birth certificate, I ain' got no money for one'!


First of all they're either living a very low standard of life (minimum wage
or slightly higher-paying job, live in a low-rent district, and typically piss
their extra money away on alcohol or drugs), or they're on the public dole.


Either way....a copy of their birth certificate is NOT so expensive that they
can't save a few bucks out of one or two paychecks (or welfare check) to take
care of that.


And secondly...they KNOW what day the election is on...they KNOW they need
photo ID to vote...and waiting till two or three days before the election and
THEN coming up with the excuse `well....I's too poor to afford it...' is just
too fuckin' much of a `put-up' job!


To me....those who wait all THAT long and then come up with such an excuse
right up against the election, shouldn't be allowed to cast a ballot! They
were dealing with a `pre-existing' requirement and KNEW it! They need to be
held responsible for their bad decisions!


If they're THAT interested in voting in elections...they need to take
responsibility for THEMSELVES, and make sure they have the proper
documentation to take part in the process, and not put the onus of all that on
others on election day!


And one other thing....


People who can't even demonstrate the brains or responsibility to secure,
replace, and have available when needed, the proper documentation when and
where its appropriate, certainly aren't responsible enough or intelligent
enough, to cast a sensible vote in the first place! They are better off out of
the process.
