=============================
Greetings Joe!

RW>> I was going to. They changed my mind and suggested that I join the
RW>> Navy. I was going to, but then I wasn't very inclined to do so
RW>> because of the chances of being hurled into the ocean when the boat
 RW>> sinks.

JD> Well, the Marines are part of the Navy <G>.

Don't tell that to a Marine. In San Diego there are Navy bases and then
there are Marine bases. Miramar Naval Air Base was taken over by the
Marines and renamed the USMC Helicopter Base. (When we lived in MIra Mesa,
it wasn't unusual for Naval aircraft to fly overhead. These days, USMC
helicopters have taken that role.) The Naval training center is strictly
Navy while Camp Pendelton is strictly USMC. Even the Navy Seal teams are
based on their own territory on the Silver Strand, just south of North
Island Naval Air Station. When it comes to USMC-transportation, then the
Navy steps in because there are no USMC-Navy ships to transport them.

JD> Some time during my military career, when we were tri-service, they
JD> wanted me to serve on a ship as well. Because of my contract, I had
JD> the right to refuse, without any consequences, and I did just that.

I imagine that happens a lot. I wouldn't want to have to serve onboard a
Navy vessel either.

JD> You get the normal excuses of course, You will likely get promoted if
JD> you do this, etc. They tried that same excuse when they wanted me to
JD> take a French course. I refused that one too, and got promoted
 JD> anyway, a month later <G>

That reminds me of an incident I had with an employer while being lent-out
to a 'production' machine shop. For me, that was a downgrade from what I
was formerly doing as a Tool & Die maker. When their foreman was looking
over my shoulder, I got upset that he was in my way, so I told him to get
the f..k out of my way. He got huffy and called me into his office, told
me that I was being transferred back to the T&D shop, etc.. Management
wasn't happy that I was 'insubordinate' to a company pansy, but there was
nothing they could do about it. And, I remained in the T&D shop for the
duration of my employment there.

JD>>> I stayed on dry land, or in the air

RW>> The last place I'd want to be is in the air. The first step isn't so
RW>> bad, but the last one is a near-death experience.

JD> It doesnt hurt at all. The only part that hurts after stepping out
JD> (only paratroopers, and SAR techs, do that), is the sudden stop at
 JD> the bottom. :)

Splat!

RW>> He was surounded by Iraqi soldiers who wore black uniforms.
RW>> Something or other 'special guard'...

JD> Not a nice situation to be in.

They all made it home...

JD>>> Why? To hire a worker part time, in order to get out of paying
JD>>> benefits, to my way of thinking is fraud.

RW>> Far from it. Part time workers are usually only looking for part
 RW>> time work.

JD> Perhaps way back. For the last 10 years or so, that is all you can
JD> get. Very little full time work available. As well, a lot of
JD> companies are now using Temp agencies to get their workers, who get
JD> paid pretty much minimum wage by the temp agency.

Only if you're serving in a job that isn't part of your work experience.
Tech agencies are usually placing their experienced workers in jobs that
the worker is familiar in doing.

RW>> When you're standing in the unemployment line and they tell you that
RW>> this is your last benefit payment, part time sounds pretty good
 RW>> about then.

JD> There is truth in that.

Back in 1971, I was unemployed by choice. For a whole year, drawing
benefits the entire time. By choice, I mean that I could have gone to work
the next week after I was laid-off, but chose not to take work. Instead I
traveled up and down the coast of CA, taking jobs that paid cash under the
table when I needed travel money. The one thing I hated about it was that
I'd have to report to the unemployment office every two weeks, which meant
that I'd have to break off what I was doing to go back to SD.

RW>> They signed that lease, then they're subject to its terms. However,
RW>> it isn't impossible for the leasee to find a tenant of their own. If
RW>> the lease requires them to continue the lease under lease terms that
RW>> are so strict that they can't get out of it is their own fault.

JD> They did a lot of things, prior to Head Office deciding to close the
 JD> plant.

Bottom-line probably played a big part of that.

JD> All of that, cost them money. They got the city to lay water lines
JD> to the area, which they paid for. The rest of the area is
JD> benefitting from that depending on your POV of course <G>

Kinda like AT&T laying optical cable in residential streets when the
future of landlines was declining as fast as they did.

RW>> Mine is quite substantial compared to a lot of seniors who're on the
RW>> verge of living hand to mouth. It pays for everything and anything
RW>> we make on the side is gravy...

JD> I'm not complaining. Between my military pension, and Old Age
JD> Pension, as well as the CPP pension, and my wife's 2 pensions, we are
 JD> doing OK.

I think your triple dipping is a bit more than my double dip.

    Have a day!
