Greetings Joe!

JD>>> Well, the Marines are part of the Navy <G>.

RW>> Don't tell that to a Marine. In San Diego there are Navy bases and
 RW>> then

JD> I imagine they take a lot of pride in their units.

I'm told by an ex-Navy guy that the USMC is still part of the Navy. I dont
believe that for a minute and asked him who was in charge of the Marines
when they're being transported by the Navy. He maintained the stance that
the Captain of the ship is, but couldn't explain who was in charge when a
Marine General was onboard. IMO, the USMC grunts onboard a Navy ship take
orders from the Captain when there is no USMC officer onboard.

JD>>> Some time during my military career, when we were tri-service, they
JD>>> wanted me to serve on a ship as well. Because of my contract, I had
JD>>> the right to refuse, without any consequences, and I did just that.

RW>> I imagine that happens a lot. I wouldn't want to have to serve
RW>> onboard a Navy vessel either.

JD> It was only allowed for us who signed on before they unified the
JD> services, and did not sign our rights away, like they tried to get
JD> the younger ones (like me at the time) to do. Strangely a young
JD> admin type told me to keep what I had and sign nothing. I listened.
 JD> Glad I did.

He sounds like my lawyer. As a firearms owner, I belong to an outfit
called Texas Law Shield, which has a presence in all states. My first
order of business is to call my lawyer, then 911/police if I have had
reason to use my firearm. And say nothing to any officer or the public
until I've talked with my lawyer. I do have to answer the officer's
questions about my ID, but nothing more.

RW>> That reminds me of an incident I had with an employer while being
RW>> lent-out to a 'production' machine shop. For me, that was a
RW>> downgrade from what I was formerly doing as a Tool & Die maker. When
RW>> their foreman was looking over my shoulder, I got upset that he was
RW>> in my way, so I told him to get the f..k out of my way. He got huffy
RW>> and called me into his office, told me that I was being transferred
RW>> back to the T&D shop, etc.. Management wasn't happy that I was
RW>> 'insubordinate' to a company pansy, but there was nothing they could
RW>> do about it. And, I remained in the T&D shop for the duration of my
 RW>> employment there.

JD> It did not have consequences?

The one and only time that a union was worth their dues. The union goon
stepped in and told the foreman that he couldn't do anything about it, and
that he should just accept the fact that I'm working in the tool room
again.

RW>> Only if you're serving in a job that isn't part of your work
RW>> experience. Tech agencies are usually placing their experienced
RW>> workers in jobs that the worker is familiar in doing.

JD> There are not too many of those types of jobs left in the area. They
JD> all left for Mexico, or the third world to save money.

A lot of places have put their key employees to work in the Mexican
factorys along the border. My uncle (an engineer) had to do some time in
Juarez (across from El Paso) in a factory that employed Mexican labor. He
came from the area in Illinois where I grew up and hated every second of
being there. In fact it caused him to retire early.

JD>>> I'm not complaining. Between my military pension, and Old Age
JD>>> Pension, as well as the CPP pension, and my wife's 2 pensions, we
 JD>>> are doing OK.

RW>> I think your triple dipping is a bit more than my double dip.

 JD> Money wise perhaps not.

You never know.

    Have a day!
