I am my own echolist keeper.
Who (or what) is yours?

I am the one and only legitimate moderator of the CONSPRCY echo.
I can make that claim because the previous moderator gave me his
blessing when he transferred the echo to me.

Transferring an echo is not dependent on an elisting/echolisting
on a web site that somebody created.

Thom LaCosta was trying to do moderators a favor by creating a
private elisting/echolisting that moderators could update themselves.
However, some (sick) people sought to abuse the elisting, and did.

For example -

Björn Felten is the one and only legitimate editor/moderator of
the FIDONEWS echo, transferred to him by the previous one and only
legitimate editor/moderator, Frank Vest.

Ross Cassell is a mere pretender to the throne, having an echotag
for FIDONEWS intended for moderators only (according to Thom LaCosta).
Since Ross Cassell has never been the legitimate editor/moderator
of the FIDONEWS, his claim to fame is bogus.

See how that works?  Or rather, how Thom LaCosta had intended
it to work?  Moderators (or their chosen reprentatives) could elist
their echo, or update their existing elist (if needed).

I do not believe Thom LaCosta had intended his elist/echolist program
to be used for nefarious purposes.  However, some individuals (most
notably Ross Cassell) found a loophole and took full advantage of it.

Of course, no private (or public) elist/echolist has any official
status in fidonet.

And you know what that means.  In addition to Ross Cassell's bogus
claim -

Gary Perkins has never been editor/moderator of the FIDONEWS.
Nick Kill has never been editor/moderator of the FIDONEWS.
Jon Justvig is not (& has never been) editor/moderator of the FIDONEWS.
Janis Kracht is not (& has never been) editor/moderator of the FIDONEWS.

But you know that.

What makes your elisting/echolisting more special than somebody
else's elisting/echolisting?  The only official elisting/echolisting
in my book is my own elist/echolist - the one I created myself.

And please.  Do not give me that drivel about somebody else being
the echolist keeper.  Fidonet sysops (and non-sysops) are not stupid.

Each and every one of us (sysops and non-sysops) is fully capable
of being our very own echolist keeper.  Nobody is dependent on you,
or anybody else, to provide an elist/echolist for them.

Now if you, or somebody else, wants to post a listing of available
echoes in an effort to expand fidonet, that would be a good thing.
The more sysops and participants the better, in my opinion.

What I see in today's fidonet is sysops exchanging messages with
other sysops, with very few non-sysops being participants in any
forum.  Now ask yourself this one simple question -

How many users/participants to you have on your BBS?  Of those
users/participants, how many participate in fidonet?

Okay, that was two questions.

So shoot me.  :)
