There was also a gal who earned her keep as echolist keeper.
I am not talking about Janis, but a Z3 gal.  Point is, there
is no specific or official echolist keeper of fidonet.  Never
has been, and hopefully never will be.

Au contraire.  Thom LaCosta advertised his elist/echolist as
being an international elist/echolist, not some local or regional
thing.

Björn Felten used Thom LaCosta's echolist, for a very brief period
of time, elisting the FIDONEWS echo.  Of course, he was never under
any obligation to do so.  Not according to P4 or echopol1 or any
other fidonet policy document.  Not by any rule or by any fidonet
administrator.  So why did he do it?  For the same reason as to
why a man climbs a mountain.  Because it was there.

Since Björn Felten is still editor/moderator of the FIDONEWS, his
update of the FIDONEWS echo remains valid to this very day.  Of course,
once Björn Felten relinquishes the throne, his successor will have to
update the elisting so that sysops around the world would be aware
of the changing of the guard.

Once a man successfully climbs a mountain, he has no need to climb
that same mountain again.

I have used Thom LaCosta's echolist myself, for the same purpose,
in regards to the CONSPRCY echo, which was handed to me by the previous
moderator, Steve Asher.  After updating the elisting, I repeated the
process six months later, and then realized the stupidity of updating
my own update, as doing so was totally unnecessary given there was
nothing to update.

As such, even if the Z1C claims that Thom LaCosta's elist/echolist
(or whoever is maintaining it today) is the OFFICIAL ELIST/ECHOLIST
OF FIDONET, Björn Felten remains editor/moderator of the FIDONEWS
echo and I remain moderator of the CONSPRCY echo.

Notice that Janis never specified what moderators "moved in bulk"
to Thom's list.  Given the most recent stats listed in her rag,
that could only amount to being a handful of moderators, if any.

Fidonet is about communication.  There are only three echoes
where there is any traffic of note -

* FIDONEWS
* COOKING
* MEMORIES

There are about ten other echoes that contain nothing but autoposts
and/or statistics.  From there, all the remaining echoes are totally
empty/devoid of content.

We know that Björn Felten (Z2) is editor/moderator of the FIDONEWS.
I seriously doubt he has used the newly-designed elist/echolist.

That means, if your theory is correct, this "bulk" of moderators
consisted of, at most, two Z1 moderators, one of whom is Ross Cassell,
who updates the MEMORIES echo with moderator's permission.
