That was part of it.  But much of what Muhammad was railing against
was also being condemned by the church.  There were a lot of heresies
back in those days, too many to count.  There were at least 70 gospels,
countless letters, and no telling how many apocalypses.  Nobody knew
what a bible was, as the canon had not yet been defined by the church.
The printing press came much later, so everything that was written had
to be done by hand.  Early Christians of that time looked at Muhammad
as a holy man, not as some kind of evil monster.

A few things of note - and you can check this out for yourself quite
easily.  Priests in the Roman Catholic Church (and I suspect other
churches as well) are self-employed, not employees of the church.
Also, there is no such thing as a "Catholic" or "Christian" bible.
The bible is just a collection of books, usually broken down into
two distinct parts (the old testament and the new testament).  The
church itself, at least the RCC, has no philosophy of its own.

So, given those facts, what is a priest, and what is his function?

That should come as no surprise, given that Muslims are already
Christians.  You see, while Jews have rejected the Christ, Muslims
have not.  In fact, Muslims regard Jesus (Isa)(PBUH) as a prophet,
much in the same way as Muhammad (PBUH).  The only difference being
that Muhammad (PBUH) was the last of the Jewish prophets, while
Jesus/Isa (PBUH) was not.

Why should they?  Priests are self-employed.

Moderators do not have to be sysops any more than priests have
to be bishops.

But they can be.

And might be.

If god says so.
