That's what Al Sharpton used to think.
Yesterday, on his nationally-syndicated
television show, he showed pictures of
what he looked like before he had lost
over half his body weight.  He told his
audience (this was a live telecast) he
lost the weight through "self-control
and discipline" - and sharpened his
mind in exchange.

He blamed himself - and nobody else -
for having put on all that massive weight.
He made no excuses, made no mention of
doctors, pharmaceutical companies, the
food industry, etc.  It was all about
what he put in his own pie-hole and
what he did years later to take it all
off.

No mention was made about any specific
diet or what foods to eat or not eat.
It was all about "self-control and
discipline" being the means of getting
things done.

It is estimated that 34% of all Americans
are obese.  Not just fat or overweight, but
obese.  I could find no estimates as to how
many of those might be morbidly obese, but
I am sure there are more than just a few.

Sugar cane farmers are subsidized here in
the USA.  I would say sugar, but it is more
than that.  Republicans managed to pass a
farm bill (signed by the president) that
guarantees 95% of the value of a farmer's
crop - even if that crop was destroyed by
storms, floods, etc.  Regardless of crop,
it made no difference.  Even if the crop
was a bust, it made no difference.

Farming in the USA is not for small farmers
any more.  It is all Big Business.  Corporations
have bought out small farmers everywhere.  The
state of Iowa is no more a rural state, as all
the farmers have moved to the cities.  That's
right.  Over 90% of the population of Iowa
is urban, no more country folks around milking
cows or planting crops.

The cost of farmland in America is now an
minimum price of $7500 per acre.  What used
to go for less than $500 per acre where cattle
would graze and leave their droppings.

What people eat today is not real food.

Whether it is vegetable or meat makes no difference.
Genetically modified foods are all the rage these days.
Are these foods healthy for you?  Corporations say they
are.  The scientists who work for those corporations
say they are.  Governments that fund the research say
they are.

Statins are a $29 billion dollar industry - per year -
in the USA (thanks for the url).  Approved by the FDA
in 1987, without much testing, during the Reagan
administration.  Some of those drugs have since been
removed from the market having been deemed too unsafe.

The American Medical Association wanted government to
pass a law mandating statins be put into our nation's
drinking water supply (similar to flouride).  Saner
minds prevailed then, but what about now?

We are creating genetically engineered humans.
And those humans do not even realize what is being
done to them.

Dandelion wine is rather good.  Ray Bradbury was
quite fond of it.  The other flower that is of note
is the lovely artichoke, known for promoting the
flow of brine.  Nothing starchy about artichokes,
unless overstuffed with forbidden goodies.

In small quantities, sugar in its purest form is
not harmful.  And can be beneficial.  For example,
the sailors who travelled with Christopher Colombus
munched on raw sugar cane while at sea.  Columbus
wrote about it in his logs, so it must be true.
This provided them with a much-needed energy burst
and kept them going far longer than they could ever
have been expected ...
