Islam literally means "peace and submission to Allah" - nothing about
violence or hatred towards others, or the degradation of women, forced
conversion, etc.

American college students used to study in Syria just a few
short years ago.  Until that civil war broke out and made it
too dangerous a place.  Who made Syria a dangerous place?
Not the president of Syria, or his government.  And it cannot
be the religion of Islam since most countries which have a
majority Muslim population are very safe.

Mexico does not have very many Muslims.  How safe is it
for Americans?  Not very.  Hell, Mexico is hardly safe for
Mexicans.  And yet Islam is given a bad rap because there
is so much violence in the Middle East?

The US instigated a war between Iraq and Iran, giving arms
to both sides.  The idea was for Iraq to weaken Iran, but for
Iran to win, making it easy for the US to invade Iran.  This
was all Ronald Reagan's idea.  Donald Rumsfeld was Secretary
of Defense at the time, travelled to Iraq, shook hands with
Saddam Hussein, and a deal was made.

Iran/Contra.  Remember?  Trading arms for hostages.
Reagan said he forgot.  But that was before he really
forgot.  Anyway, Ollie North knew.  And like a good
soldier, Colonel North followed orders.  Later convicted,
then given a presidential pardon by George H.W. Bush.

And then the unthinkable happened.  Iraq won the war with
Iran.  And Saddam Hussein wanted to collect his prize.  What
was the prize?  Kuwait.  Reagan had left office, and Bush41
was in charge.  Saddam asked the US ambassador to Iraq if
it would be okay to collect his prize, and with a nod and
a wink the ambassador gave Saddam the go ahead.

We all know what happened next.  Saddam collected his prize.
And then Bush41 figured to make himself a wartime president
thus ensuring his own re-election.  Well, even the best-laid
plans do not always turn out the way one expects ...

We sent in Marines to Beirut.  How did that work out for us?

We pitted Iraq (ruled by a Sunni dictator) against Iran
(ruled by Shiite ayatollahs).  How did that work out for us?

We brought together the Arabs and the Jews and got them
to sign a few peace accords.  How did that work out for us?

We invaded Afghanistan, and then we invaded Iraq.  How
did that work out for us?

Maybe we should just let Israel nuke 'em all and forget
about doing anything else to help the world.  At least that
way Muslims will no longer blame us for being The Great
Satan.
