Politicians are geniuses.

The #1 goal of a politician is to get elected.  The #1 goal of a
politician in office is to get re-elected.  The way to get elected
or re-elected is to get more votes than the opponent.  And that
means making promises.  Lots of promises.  Including empty promises.
Once in office, politicians get to spend money - other people's
money.  And then those politicians gladly proclaim they are doing
the people a favor.  People are so thankful to those politicians
for doing them such a favor that they keep electing those same
politicians time after time after time.

After Katrina wiped out the city of New Orleans, hundreds of thousands
of people had to be relocated to other cities around the country.  But
they still retained the right to vote, including for candidates in New
Orleans and the state of Louisiana.  Special voting places had to be
set up in various states, set aside specifically for Louisiana voters
who had relocated due to Katrina.  This went on for years and years,
until somebody (in Texas of all places) wisened up and figured out a
resident of a city in one state could not be a resident of another city
in another state at the same time.

Ray Nagin knew better than to ask folks who elected him to office
to leave The City That Care Forgot.

Are you blaming President George W. Bush for helping the people of
New Orleans survive the aftermath of the storm of the century?

 TR> years...people move into the area, live and farm right on the volcano's
 TR> slopes....and are totally wiped out when the volcano suddenly comes to

Native Hawai'ians would love white folks to leave the islands ...

Not to mention the US military, which is known to have helped many on
foreign shores ...

Fewer and fewer places around the US remain affordable for retirees.
As a result, many retirees are looking at places in other parts of the
world to spend their golden years.  Places such as Costa Rica, Thailand,
Philippines, other tropical paradises ...

 TR> And when a heavy rainy season comes and floods them out...the taxpayers

That is a better use of our tax dollars than sending our nation's
finest treasure off to war in far-off places we have no business being.

And there is something wrong in wanting to make money, or making a
profit?  Money makes the world go 'round.  Without incentive, there
would be no action.

 TR> Realtors don't care where the housing properties are, they just want to
 TR> make money.

Everybody wants to make money.  Or rather, everybody wants to have the
means to survive.  A realtor might not expect to make a thing.  But at
the same time hope to make a million dollars.  Or more.

 TR> City planning commissions and county tax boards don't care where they are
 TR> either, they just want more taxes coming in.

Whether it is local, state, or federal taxes, it is revenue.
There are various ways of increasing revenue.  One way is by
shifting taxes from one group to another.  Another way is by
using tax cuts.

It matters to the politicians as to where those taxes come from,
as it is the voters who decide what politicians to retain and what
politicians to fire.  If people think certain politicians are costing
them too much in the pocketbook, those politicians will be voted out
of office.

Everything is economic.
Which is the only thing that makes sense.
