The biggest problem with the side arm of cops here in the US is they have no
`stopping' power. A 9mm doesn't really put someone `down' immediately.


Many departments have gone over to S&W .40 caliber. A better choice for
stopping power maybe, but a .45 is probably better.

A taser is not always an option. In the case of the Ferguson, Mo incident, I
imagine no cop expects to have someone he's just telling to `get out of the
middle of the street and on the sidewalk', to suddenly thrust their upper body
into their patrol car and try to wrest their gun away.

When someone suddenly grabs for your gun, gets hold and is trying to wrestle
it away from you....a taser is probably not an option at that particular
moment. Your main thoughts would be to retain control of your firearm against
a larger opponent who is struggling with you for control of a deadly weapon.


In an area like that...I'm wondering what the cop was doing on patrol without
a partner. There should have been two cops in the car instead of only one.
