Conservatives (Republicans in the USA) are politicizing climate
science.  Not liberals or moderates (Democrats, Independents,
and all other non-Republicans in the USA).  It is Republicans
who slander peer review, not Democrats or Independents.  It
is Republicans who slash science funding, not Democrats or
Independents.  It is Republicans who gut funding for scientific
institutions, not Democrats or Independents.  It is Republicans
who question the integrity and motives of scientists, not Democrats
or Independents.  It is Republicans, and Republicans only, who
do that.

Ross S. rides a bicycle, having no need of a Mercedes or
a Motorcycle.  Others use nothing more than their feet as
their basic mode of transportation.  Not that they have
a choice, as most folks live in the third world, or in
third world conditions.

Pedal power, in the third world.  In the USA, people need
to do nothing more than plug them in overnight for charging.
Of course, there is a cost, which kind of defeats the purpose
of having an electric car if one's motive is to save money
by not having to pay for gas.

In the third world, pedal power works just as well, and
as an added bonus allows people to keep in shape.  With most
Americans being overweight or obese, some morbidly obese,
perhaps pedal power should be the way to go.

OTOH, pedal power might lead to more heart attacks among
Americans who have a weight problem ...

What was GWB's alternative to the Kyoto Protocols?  Oh.  He did not
have an alternative.  No Republican did.  And no Republican has an
alternative today.

A flawed idea, allowing some countries to delay implementation
of needed changes.  But one flawed idea does not make for ditching
the Kyoto Protocols, or any other effort, to bring climate change
under control.

Climate scientists the world over have come to the basic conclusion
that greenhouse gases are warming the planet, and that it is humans
who are the main cause of it.  I am sure that includes politicians,
but certainly not limited to such.

Every Republican candidate for Congress (and for President) has
denied the most basic and fundamental facts about climate change.
Climate change denial has become the new litmus test for Republican
politicians.  Like creationism and intelligent design, it is their
way to prove their conservative bona fides.

When one side - namely conservatives (Republicans) - considers
a simple analytical judgment to be de facto politicization, that
makes it impossible for anybody else to avoid politicization no
matter who they are.  So what is a scientist to do?

Scientists are not politicians.  Scientists do not make policy,
or generally go about espewing a bunch of hot air.  It is rather
difficult for me to imagine anybody like Michiel van der Vlist
being a "liberal Democrat" or any other kind of politician, as
he seems to be more interested in analyzing data and other stuff
most folks find to be quite boring.

Politicians love to grandstand.  One of the best is conservative
politician James Inhofe, who write the book on global warming -

According to the mad politician (I cannot call him a mad scientist),
science is nothingmore than the magic of fortunetellers, both fake
and exaggerated.

And as if that is not enough to convince folks that conservatives
are mad, take a look at the state of North Carolina, which attempted
to make prediting sea level rises illegal in the state.  Fortunately,
saner minds prevailed and fishermen are now safe.
