On a local radio talk show I listened to as I was driving to Fry's today,
someone called in and asks..."But...but...if both the Chargers and Padres
leave town.....where will they go?" I wish I'd been on the line then...I'd
have said: "Who cares?"!


Doing the upgrade to the stadium was supposed to be for a Super Bowl game
to be played here...and all the hotels and resturants would make a ton of
money!


Well....the Super Bowl game got played here....and most of those who came
for the game drove down from LA on Super Bowl Sunday to see the game, or
jetted in on private jets, lived aboard for a day or so...took special buses
from the airport that make a stop at the stadium as a regular part of their
usual trip ANYway....


So....the hotels made zip! The resturants made zip! Not even cab drivers or
limo services made anything. And the bus trip from the airport to the stop
at the stadium cost about 2 bucks at the time! And that isn't even to a city
transit! At the time it was a private bus service sponsored by the area's
casinos! So a multi-millionaire brings a bunch of friends down on Super Bowl
sunday in his corporate jet! They arrive on Saturday...spend the night on
the aircraft. Step on a casino-bound bus for two bucks a head...which makes
a scheduled stop at the stadium to pick up casino workers....and they never
go near a hotel...a resturant....except for the four bucks spent round trip
to and from the airport, and whatever it cost to get in the game (which the
city got no part of)...they didn't spend squat here!


The voters couldn't even come back on the mayor by voting her out the next
election, because she didn't run...she retired from politics and left the
area! Did I mention with a public employee's pension?
