The above faux news report, presented to you by Ross Cassell, has
been around for quite a while, since February 13,2012 - as noted by
wikipedia.  Vladimir Putin's supporters made their own prank in
response, titled "Russia Without Putin - Russia Without a Future"
- as also noted by wikipedia.

I am sure that most of you have already heard the news today -
Russian authorities arrested five people in connection with the
murder of Boris Nemtsov, a main opposition figure in Russian
politics.  And a sixth suspect would also have been arrested -
had that suspect not blown himself up first.

But hey.  Think about it.  Are Russians really upset about
Vladimir Putin?  The man has been elected three times to the
highest office in the land, and seems likely to be re-elected
again.  And again.  And again.  For as long as he remains
open to the idea of fulfilling his people's wishes to stay
in office.  Let's take a look at the numbers, shall we?

Before Vladimir Putin was elected President of Russia, the
GDP per capita in Russia was $1,771 (USD).  This was in the
year 2000 AD by our calendar.  And now, fifteen years later,
the GDP per capita in Russia is $14,000+ (USD).  Thas is in
the year 2015 AD by our calendar.

It seems to me that Vladimir Putin made A Deal with the
Russian people long ago, in the year 2000 AD by our calendar -

The Russian people would support the Kremlin's line - or avoid
politics like the plague.

Those Russians who did as they were told did quite well.
Those Russians who chose to protest did so at their own peril.

That is why, for their own protection, President Putin has
placed all Russian protestors under house arrest.  His main
nemesis, Boris Nemtsov, obviously violated curfew.  This
was clearly not the fault of the dearly beloved Russian
President we have grown to love and admire ...
