            FIDONET.ORG, the domain and the echo

The fidonet.org-domain has been a matter of dispute for many years but
lately inactive.

It was created February 25th 1988 and became largely dormant under
George Peace's reign. He left Fidonet at some point but refused to
transfer the domain to someone else in the Fidonet-realm.

Eventually Marco d'Itri showed-up during my tenure of IC who brokered
a deal with George, after a lot of discussion, that the latter would
release the domain to Marco who then would transfer it to the current
IC.

And so it happened. After that George Peace was furious that I held
the domain because he was unaware who was the IC at that time, he
expected someone else.

That discussion died down and here we are. Nothing much happened to
it, that is mostly if not exclusively my fault.

So for a while my good friend Nick Andre and myself have been debating
this and the man, notorious for his D'bridge development, wants to
spearhead the activity to start exploiting the possibilities of such a
domain to their fullest extent.

An echomail-conference FIDONET.ORG was created already a while ago and
it is available via regular channels. If your uplink doesn't carry it,
just request it. Nick Andre is linked to it directly from my system
and by the time this message appears in Fidonews, it will have been
elisted for those that prefer such things.

All comunication regarding the goings-on in the fidonet.org-domain
will be via this echo.

So you all know now what is the purpose and what we're looking at
here.

These are the echo-rules for those wishing to participate:

Conference rules for the FIDONET.ORG echomail conference

File date: May 13 2015

1.
The EchoMail area FIDONET.ORG is created to facilitate the
management of the FIDONET.ORG domain

2.
The conference is available with write access to all nodelisted
FidoNet sysops. It may be made available read-only to points and
users, Sysops of other networks may be linked at the discretion of
receiving nodes, on a READ ONLY basis. From time to time, other
individuals may be invited to participate.

3.
Handles "may" be used, provided the message is "signed."  Either the
"from" field or the signature must contain the sysop's real name as
defined in the nodelist.

4.
Messages should be about the management of the FIDONET.ORG domain. For
anything else, post it somewhere else.

Personal attacks are ALWAYS off-topic, as are profanity and
advertising.

5.
If the moderator decides that an individual is in breach of the
conference rules or of the current policy rules, that individual will
receive a warning.

If the breach continues, two more warnings will be issued before the
individual's access to the conference will be terminated for a period
to be established at the time such termination occurs. In cases of
extreme misbehaviour, immediate termination of access may be requested
from the individual's feed.

moderator's decision.
