I disagree that IPv4 with NAT is easier to use. Well, it probably is for those
who have never dealt with anything else, but NAt is a kludge to make many hosts
share an IP address. The situation before that where every host had its own
globally unique IPv4 address was a lot simpler and IPv6 returns us to that
situation. And the hex numbers... they should be no problem for those in the
know and Aunt Mildred and Uncle George don't deal with IP numbers anyway, they
deal with URL's.

And if they do it rightm the same will be true for IPv6.

No. Any decent CPE these days supports prefix delegation and has a firewall
that blocks all incoming IPv6 by default except ICMP.

That should have been fixed years ago. It was now seven years ago that i told
myself I would not by any more new network stuff that does not support IPv6. If
everyone had done that, there would not be any IPv4 only stuff on the shelves

You don't have to wait for your provider. You can set up a tunnel.

So did I. That was over a decade ago. I did the same for IPv6 over half a
decade ago and the learning cureve was LESS steep.

True. But it won't solve the IPv4 depletion problem. It is much to late in the
game for that. Interregional address transfers may give temporarely relief in
some individual cases, but it will not be a long term solution.

The irony is that the hoarders may overplay their hand. Yes, the value of an
IPv4 address will go up in the near future. But in the long run, it will go
down again. Because some day we won't need it any more.
