Ärende: Metric System Nonsense

Hello Everybody,

Björn Felten, for some weird reason, or for no
reason at all, wrote up some nonsense about the
metric system as it pertains to economics -

Switching over to the metric system would certainly
cost a lot initially.  Plus it would no longer keep
international competitors out of the US market.

Alas, I do believe that you will eventually join the
rest of us, the question only is how long it will take...

What total balderdash.  The metric system is nothing more
than a unit of measurement.  There is no monetary cost at
all involved.  Every economist knows that, including those
who call themselves political economists.

But let's not let facts get in the way of a good story.

The other absurd idea is that Sweden leads the world.
Far from it.  It is America that leads the world, with
all others being followers.  With the possible exception
of France.

I mean, think about it -

The President of the United States of America
is The Leader of the Free World.  Not the Prime
Minister of Sweden.

Here is a concrete example to prove the point that
America is the Leader, with the rest of the world being
mere followers -

In the field of music, A440 is the pitch standard
used by the entire world, as set by the USA in 1936.
The ISO adopted this pitch in 1955, and affirmed it
again in 1975.

For those who have absolutely no frakking idea of
what the hell I am talking about -

A440 is the musical note A above middle C on a piano.

Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels was so
impressed that he dictated Germany to change its
own standard of A432 to the new American standard
of A440.

That's right.  Der Fuhrer (Adolf Hitler) himself
much preferred listening to the operas of Richard
Wagner in A440 than A432.

Of course the French would never have anything
to do with it, being the only country in the world
to have ever passed a law mandating A435 as being
the only acceptable Standard French.

And then came The Beatles.  And The Stones.
Rather than trying to be diplomatic like the
French with their A435, or being followers
of the newly established worldwide standard
of A440, they had to start a revolution by
using their own version of A442.

In the old days, violin led the way.
The biggest stars and celebrities were
violinists.  The best violinists were
paid astronimical amounts to perform.
Whether for a large audience, or small.
Private, or public.

And then came the trumpet (and cornet).
Since this instrument could be played
much louder than a violin, more people
could be entertained.  It also took
considerably less time to master the
art of playing a trumpet rather than
a violin.  All one had to do to make
gobs of money with this instrument
was to play it loud.  The louder the
better.  Didn't have to be good.
Just loud.

This made for a lot of trumpet players.
Especially among black men in cities such
as New Orleans.  And Memphis.  And Chicago.
And other places with lots of black men.

You see, that is how men would attract
their women.  Not any different than today.
Women dig musicians.

The electric guitar has long since replaced
the trumpet, as the trumpet had replaced the
violin.

Why is the electric guitar so popular?  Because
it is a phallic symbol, adored by women, who need
to have it, just as men need to flaunt it.  Kind
of like bling, if you know what I mean.

But maybe you don't.

After all, it's a black thang.
