How to Hijack an Echo Without Really Trying.
Sounds like the title of a movie, made in Hollywood,
doesn't it?  Or at least a B-movie, adored by some
as cult favorites.

no confidence by a majority of interested posters
and the evil despot was deposed.

you sure do go out of your way to bring oppression
on yourselves.

Things that should always be kept in mind -

* No private elisting has any official status in Fidonet.

* No elisting of any kind is noted in P4.

* With no elisting, there can be no Elist keeper.

* Who gets to compile the elisting?

* Who gets to be the Elist keeper?

* Who gets to play or pretend to be moderator?

* Why should a moderator have to update his/her own elisting?

* Especially when no change(s) have been made?

* What happens when there are competing elists?

* Who gets to decide which elist is "the" elist?

* Who gets to decide which moderator is "the" moderator?

* Who gets to decide anything about anything?

Dale Shipp says it is okay for an individual to hijack
an echo.  As long as that individual has the blessing of
the self-appointed Zone 1 Dictator.  We all know who that
is.

The so-called "elist" is nothing but a means to exert
control - a means to force sysops to do the bidding
of those who hate the concept of free speech.

Ross Cassell abused the Z1 echolist for that very
purpose.  By using his claim of being the "elisted
moderator" of the fidonews, he threatened to cut
the feed of sysops who refused to cut the access
of certain individuals he wanted out.  Janis Kracht
provides him cover, so that nobody can touch the
feedcutter of fidonet.  Tim Richardson can provide
the details, for those who are curious.

But that's okay.

Because things are about to change.

Oh I love freedom of the press.
