You would be surprised, when coming here, to notice how popular it actually is.
Next to American football, baseball, volleyball, track and field, fencing,
golf, marching band which you may encounter at a lot of high schools as
extra-curricular activities, often if not always football is also offered and
quite popular. Also with the girls.
 
The real problem however is that they have no organized competitions the way
that we have it. So these sports are a school-thing and once kids are out of
school, there is "nothing". There are outlets for only the best of them in the
NFL, MLB ... the really elite levels where the same teams always play the other
same teams in an ever on-going carousel. The lesser players have no outlet and
the better ones move to the European competitions.
 
At youth level I've watched games which were very technical, very entertaining
to watch, but 90 minutes without a single foul? ?? When our youth teams would
meet them, they'd eat them alive before half-time.
 
Now I think the US is world chqmpion in women's football, they're actually very
good and it's worth it to watch some games to see to what level they got. OK,
cute asses, I'll agree, but a very good game.
 
Bottom line, if the US had a coaching and competition infrastructure the way we
do, they'd be among the 4-6 top leading world countries with the recruitment
and scouting base they have.
