The state of Mississippi still has a portion of its official
state flag being the confederate battle flag.  Some of the state
legislators have introduced legislation to do away with that flag
and come up with a new one that does not include any such garbage.
But that may take some time.  Even decades.  :'(

The confederate battle flag was never an official flag of the
confederacy.  After the war, it was misused as a racist symbol,
as it is being misused today.

Slavery existed before, during, and after the war, both in the
North and in the South.  It was not until the Constitution was
amended, after the war was over, that slavery came to an end.

All right.  Slavery still exists.  In prisons.  As prison labor.
But that's different ...

The reasons for the war was not just slavery.  It was more
economic, as the North was industrial and the South agricultural.
Slavery was used as an issue to divide, so that some could profit.

As a moral issue, most people thought slavery to be repugnant.
Not just people in the North, but also by people in the South.
Abraham Lincoln was an abolitionist long before he became
president, but was willing to go along with it if it meant
keeping the country together.

Only those who are deluded.

Those who love history honor all from both the North and the South.
On Memorial Day, I take out my trumpet and play "Taps" at noon, in
honor of all who have served, in all wars.  And that includes those
who served in the war amongt ourselves.

After the War, the biggest business in town was fake body parts.
Our governor, Francis T. Nicholls, had lost an arm and a leg during
the War, but being an officer and a gentleman always kept things
honest by doing away with the lottery, as well as fake handshakes.
