Ignoring international law does not make it go away.  The George
W. Bush administration ignored the Geneva Convention in regards to
torture, with Vice President Dick Cheney claiming "waterboarding
is not torture".  We all know what happened at Gitmo, and at
Abu Ghraib in Iraq.  But no US president or US vice president
will ever be put on trial for war crimes or crimes against humanity
in any world court or international court.

The United States signed The United Nations Declaration on Human
Rights in 1948, along with many other nations around the world.
During the George H W Bush administration, the US Senate declared
the UN Declaration on Human Rights null and void, on grounds that
it was not a treaty, citing the US Constitution defintion.

So when is an international treaty the US signs binding on the US?
Only when the US chooses to comply?  If the whole world worked that
way, just doing whatever each country felt like doing, or not doing,
what would be the reason for international agreements?  It would be
anarchy, on a global scale.

There is no such thing as a "fair deal".  What is fair for one
person/group is not fair for another person/group.  When something
is taken from one group and given to another, one group benefits
at the expense of another.  That is how things work, and have
worked since the beginning of time (or at least since man has
walked this earth).

What we have today, in a large section of American society,
is extreme selfishness.  That is why you see the likes of Donald
Trump leading the polls in regards to the Republican nomination
for president.  The guy is reminiscent of Huey Long, a demagogue
from Louisiana who would have been king had a doctor not shot
him dead (actually it was Long's own bodyguards who shot him by
accident, trying to protect him from a doctor who was visiting
one of Long's ladyfriends in secret).

I've always wondered what a President Huey P. Long would
have been like, had his mad plan to run for office not gotten
derailed.  On January 20, 2017 we might all find out, when
President Donald J. Trump takes the oath of office.
