You obviously disregard a few inconvenient facts:
 
Fact-1: Fidonet is not being destroyed by a few individuals from Z2. Claiming
that, shows a lack of insight and common sense. It is going doing the drain
because at some point technical innovation stopped. Most people that made
this hobby exciting moved somewhere else ... lack of growth perspective ...
and the onslaught of the internet with plug and play stuff. You don't need a
master's degree to set it all up. Nowadays machines come preconfigured with
"whatever" ... "What? Fidonet? Hello ...."
 
Fact-2: PCs will become an extint species not too long from now. The few
initiatives to move Fidonet into the tablet and smartphone markets foundered
because the developers wanted (too much?) money for it and quit.
 
Fact-3: It's old stuff, bypassed by new technologies. The only thing keeping
Fidonet going is the binkd/binkp. After that, nothing really renewing that
would stirr the masses popped-up. When Fidonet popped-up there was nothing
like it, now there's way better communication opportunities.
 
Fact-4: no youth, no new customers ... there's no appeal
 
Fact-5: under the current Z1C the decline in numbers in Z1 far outweighed the
decline in numbers in Z2 and its Z2C.
 
There's more that I could write about this, but please do not accuse people
you don't know about something you obviously do not understand.
 
I work here every day to make things happening... The wheels of Fidonet don't
spin on their own but need a few dedicated individuals, whether we like them
or not, to keep spinning.
 
I know there is a lot of smalltalk about me, and Michiel van der Vlist, and
Bjorn Felten. Maybe others. Don't judge people based on Fidonet content but
on performance.
 
Michiel and Bjorn are 2 technically very capable men who are a great resource
in times of need, always helpful, you just need to ask and they'll jump. I've
been at Michiel's house many times and he's the most hospitable man I know,
charming, witty, entertaining ... a joy to be with.
 
The free Fidonet we owe to them, I'm not talking "free" as in moneywise but
"free" regarding its availability, the absense of petty politics and no-one
deciding what you can get and where to go to get it.
 
I know the version that is being circulated by Janis, Ross, Bob Seaborn,
"lower-case" Mark and maybe some others is different. The reality is that
Michiel and Bjorn are core to Fidonet still being available. Also to you.
