US Senator Bernie Sanders, who is seeking the Democratic
nomination for president, is trying to explain that concept
to his American audience, but his opponents keep trying to
shout him down by calling him a "socialist" - among other
things.  Medicare (the US version of socialized health care)
for all, not just for the elderly ...

He is also calling for free college tuition, which makes a
lot of sense to those who are attending college (whose parents
are usually the ones who foot the bill).  But he keeps getting
called a "socialist" for saying such things.  Even though such
a program would save folks lots of money.

Why do people vote against their own best interests?  In the
state of Louisiana we have the TOPS program, in which the state
pays the tuition for students to go to college or trade school.
The governor, a staunch conservative Republican, defends the
program and refuses to do anything to cut funds for that program,
understanding how much free college tuition means to people.
Yet in the same breath he is quick to cut funding for health
care, which is more essential for people as access to quality
health care is needed for survival.
