"What's in a name?" or "How Small is the world?"

Abdulfattah Jandali was an undergraduate at the American
University of Beirut. When he transferred to the
University of Wisconsin to pursue a Ph.D. in Political
Science he became the tutor of a young lady named Joanne
Schieble. They struck up a relationship.

Joanne's parents weren't too wild about this, not
because Abdulfattah was a Syrian national, but because
he was muslim. Nature had its course however and Joanne
became pregnant.

Because of her parents' resistance to the relationship,
Joanne decided to give the baby up for adoption. Via a
placement agency the baby boy was adopted by a family
with the name of Jobs.

Shortly after, Joanne's father passed away and she
married Abdulfattah. They had another baby which was
named Mona. The marriage ended in divorce in 1962.

For a while Abdulfattah lost track of his daughter.
Joanne married a man by the name of George Simpson and
Mona changed her name to Mona Simpson. Joanne divorced
George and moved to Los Angeles where she raised the
girl on her own.

The young man who was previously given up for adoption
now went through life by the name of Steve Jobs. He
discovered his biological mother's true identity and met
with her. There he learned that not only was Mona
Simpson his sister but that she also had no idea an
older brother had been given up for adoption. A meeting
between both was arranged.

The biological brother and sister decided to go looking
for their father. He was located in Sacramento. Mona
went to visit him alone. They spoke for several hours
And he said that he and Schieble had given another child
away for adoption but that "we'll never see that baby
again. That baby's gone." (Simpson did not mention that
she had met Jobs). He also said that he once managed a
Mediterranean restaurant near San Jose and that "all of
the successful technology people used to come there.
Even Steve Jobs... oh yeah, he used to come in, and he
was a sweet guy, and a big tipper.

Steve Jobs recalled the place and the very friendly
proprietor but never made an effort to contact his
biological father. When Abdulfattah finally stumbled
across the truth, he asked Mona "What's this about Steve
Jobs?", Mona told him but he never made an effort to
contact his son.

Mona eventually married a man by the name of Richard
Appel, they had 2 children but also divorced. Appel, a
writer for The Simpsons, named the character Mona
Simpson after his wife, beginning with the episode
"Mother Simpson."

Isn't it all weird?
