Stalin was a thug, no different than Hitler.

Thuggery is not an ideology, as far as I know,
regardless of what name is given to it.  My great
grandfather came to America from Sicily in order
to get away from a mad dictator.

This was the dictator before the other dictator
came into power.  It was during this time the Fasci
movement came about, Sicilians banding together to
oppose the dictator's policies.  The Fasci was a
socialist movement, and the dictator's response
was very violent.  So violent that hundreds of
Sicilians had no choice but to flee their homeland.
Just to stay alive.

My great grandparents had 13 children.  Two had
died in childbirth, but 11 still very much alive.
With no money, no job, and no prospects for a
better life, my great grandfather hopped on a
boat and made his way to America.  As did many
other Sicilians in the same situation.

It took my great grandfather forever and a day,
but he did manage to bring the rest of his family
to New Orleans.  Not a day in his life did he
drive a car, or learn how to drive at all.
Being a cobbler, I guess he figured shoes were
made for walking rather than driving.  And
for hopping on boats to cross an ocean.
But he knew opportunity would not come his way
unless he went and found it.  And find it he did.

Soviet thuggery, German thuggery, Italian thuggery,
Chinese thuggery, what's the difference?  Thuggery is
thuggery.

The Russian people would have overthrown Stalin
had it not been for WWII.  The Nazis invaded Russia,
forcing Russians and other peoples to defend themselves.

The Italian people would have overthrown Mussolini
had it not been for WWII.  Sicilians had so little
respect for the guy they refused to make babies.

The Japanese people would have overthrown their
warlords had their Emperor told them to.  But we
chose to make an enemy of who could have been our
very best friend because we did not like little
yellow people with slanty eyes.

Today we are demonizing Muslims.  Why?  We
demonized Hitler, perhaps for good reason, but
consider Germans as our friends as they are
white.  Italians, maybe.  But only if they
are white enough.  Ask an Italian, and he
or she is likely to tell you "Trust family
first, relatives second, Sicilians third,
and after that, forget it."

Yeah.  We are a racist society.  So is Europe.
Not necessarily a bad thing, if one remembers to
keep things in proper perspective.

What we do to overcome our own racism and bigotry
is how we define ourselves as individuals and as a
society.

I am proud of young people in America.  Much
more proud of young people than older people.
Why?  Because young people (age 35 and under)
have shown themselves far more accepting of
all races/genders/religions than older people.

Much less xenophobic than older people.

heard of "corporate welfare"?  Even for a Swede, I find that
very hard to believe ...

In third world countries, such as the Philippines, the
poor are treated at hospitals, etc., even though they have
no insurance of any kind.  Those who are fortunate and have
insurance or the means to pay also receive the treatment
they need.  For more advanced treatments, the poor receive
the help they need in places such as the USA or Europe,
as do the wealthy.

Somebody pays for all of this.  The poor have no money,
but receive the help they need.  The wealthy have their
golden parachutes, so it costs them little or next to
nothing, and receive the help they need.  But the middle
class, oh, how the middle class gets screwed on both
ends ...
