Hello Janis,
>>> Why would a woman choose to help Bernie rather than Hillary?
>>> Unless that woman is a socialist, that would seem to make no sense.
>>> No sense at all ...
>> Being a socialist makes as much sense as aligning with any other political
>> persuasion.
JK> True... But let me blab about a few things. First.. Bernie is a
democratic
JK> socialist, not a "socialist".
http://www.dsausa.org/talkin_bernie_and_socialism
Bernie Sanders is a Socialist, plain and simple. Not a Democrat.
Not a Republican. A Socialist. In the fine tradition of Eugene Debs
and Norman Thomas.
Sanders was a Socialist when he served as mayor of Burlington, Vermont.
Sanders was (and is) a Socialist when he served in the US Congress.
Sanders remains a Socialist to this very day, and is NOT a Democrat.
Just because Sanders chooses to caucus with Democrats in the US Senate
does not make him a Democrat.
Just because Sanders chooses to seek the nomination of the Democratic
Party for president does not make him a Democrat.
Bernie Sanders was, and is, a Socialist.
JK> Much of the USA is the same, using "democratic socialist" programs like
JK> medicaid, medicare, foodstamps, welfare, (gov't programs) and a lot more I
JK> can't even think of right now <g> The 'main' populace might have a
problem
JK> with the evil "socialist" word though.
Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican who served as President of the
United States. He and his party adopted policies that were far more
progressive than those policies adopted decades later by FDR. Where
did he get those ideas from? Eugene Debs was just one of the leading
socialists in Teddy's day. There were others who were also just as
influential, if not moreso.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was a Democrat who served as President of the
United States. He and his party adopted policies that were far more
progressive than those policies adopted decades later by JFK. Where
did he get those ideas from? Norman Thomas was just one of the leading
socialists in FDR's day. There were others who were also just as
influential, if not moreso.
Dwight Eisenhower was a Republican who served as President of the
United States. He and his party tried to set things back the way
they were before FDR took office, but that plan quickly backfired
on them as Ike's party lost the next congressional elections. So
Ike decided to do a complete turnaround by building a state of the
art coast-to-coast autobahn in the US - known as the interstate
system. This prove so popular among the American public that
everybody wore buttons proclaiming "I like Ike!"
John F. Kennedy was a Democrat who served as President of the United
States ... Michael Harrington was just one of the leading socialists
in JFK's day. There were others who were also just as influential,
if not moreso.
The point is, politicians of both major political parties have
adopted policies whose ideas were originated by socialists. The
two major political parties collude with each other to prevent
third parties from becoming a real factor.
George Wallace was the last candidate of a third party to have won
electoral votes in a presidential election. And that was in 1968.
Although he was asked to become their nominee again in 1972, Wallace
chose to seek the nomination of the Democratic Party. Why? Because
Wallace knew he had no chance of winning as a third party candidate.
Would George Wallace have won the presidency had he been the
nominee of the Democratic Party in 1972? Richard Nixon certainly
thought so.
But hey. That didn't happen. Wallace got shot, McGovern went
on to glorious defeat, and Nixon resigned from office in disgrace.
You really should read Wallace's memoirs. He believed it was
a conspiracy. The shooting that left him paralyzed. Nixon was
in on it. The shooter did not act alone. Kind of like the JFK
thing. Except without the grassy knoll.
John Anderson - loser.
Ross Perot - two-time loser.
Michael Bloomberg - wannabe loser.
The fact of the matter is, third party candidates do not
fare well in presidential elections. Jesse Ventura knows
that. So does Donald Trump.
Bernie Sanders is not a dummy. He knows what he is doing.
While others might think he has no chance to win, he sees a
path to victory. It may be he is the only one who sees it.
The same can be said of Donald Trump.
What we have is a potential general election between
a nationalist (Donald Trump) and a socialist (Bernie Sanders).
Adolf Hitler was a National Socialist.
I do not believe either Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders is
anything like Adolf Hitler.
OTOH, if one or both of them starts sporting a funny-looking
moustache ...
JK> Now, why would "a woman choose to help Bernie rather than Hillary?"
JK> Probably because Hillary is a liar, a centrist not a leftist, certainly
not
JK> a "progressive", as defined in the US,
Calling people names does not win arguments.
Labels do not define politicians.
The best politicians talk about issues, rather than
try to tear down other politicians by calling them names.
People want to know what policies a politician will bring,
how a politician's policies will be of help to them.
Calling people names and placing labels on them avoids
talking about real issues that affect people's lives.
When Sanders first entered the race for the Democratic
nomination, he was greeted with kindness and respect by
Clinton (and the other candidates). But in NH, now that
the race has tightened, the contest has turned nasty.
I am not saying that Bernie Sanders is an angel. Neither
Sanders nor his followers/supporters can be expected to be
or act like angels. The same can be said of Hillary Clinton
and her followers/supporters.
I hope Bill Clinton has learned his lesson. This is the
second time he tried that approach. The first time was in
South Carolina eight years ago when he tried to smear Barack
Obama. It didn't work. Of course, being a nice guy, the man
from Kenya forgave the man from Hope. And hired the woman
to be his Secretary of State.
I am not so sure the man from Brooklyn will be so nice.
He'll probably offer her the gig of vice president, knowing
it isn't worth a bucket of warm spit. ;)
JK> yes, women _think_ about who we will vote for... Don't make me get into
JK> suffrage crap that shows why women in the U.S. actually vote no matter
JK> their age :):)
We really should pass a new constitutional amendment doing away
with age as a criteria for voting ...
JK> Worst upon worst, she is actually letting Bill Clinton out to campain for
JK> her. There's a man of honor (not) LOL... That one was almost as bad as the
JK> two idiot old ladies, Gloria Steinem and Madeleine Albright blaming women
JK> who vote for Bernie on voting because "that's how their boyfriends vote"..
JK> Jesus.. this is 2016 right, not 1950???
Hillary really should have known better, given what had happened
in South Carolina eight years ago. And then, he went and did it again.
Amazing how some people never learn ...
JK> Bernie is the only candidate that makes sense. He's the only candiate
that
JK> has made sense for a number of years.
The state of Louisiana has been offering free college tuition
for decades. Until recently, the state of Louisiana had also
had a charity hospital system - that worked well for all.
States (and municipalities) have done at a local level what
Sanders wants to do on a national level. To say that Sanders
is the "only candidate" who has made sense is a misnomer.
Perhaps among presidential contenders. But there are lots
of other politicians out there in the USA.
JK> Onward to the other states. :)
Now if only somebody can teach Bernie how to properly
pronounce "Nevada" he will do just fine. :)
