Ärende: Current US Election?
============================
Hello Ward.

07 Mar 16 01:10, you wrote to me:

 WD> Jeff,

JS>> A question for those foreign to the United States.

 WD> Does that include me?

Ahh... Hell why not? <g>

JS>> Of the available potential candidates in the current US
JS>> presidential election. In a couple brief sentences.

JS>> Who would you vote for and why?

JS>> Just curious as to different people's perspectives

WD> Since you and I have broken bread, it makes communication a bit easier
WD> as I know the tone of your voice plus the horrible look of the truck
WD> you drove. You cold be from Montana.

Heh... I remember that truck. I blew it up trying to break the land speed
record. Umm, it didn't make it.

Actually I have two Jetta's now. One gas and one turbo-diesil.

WD> First of all, my mouth falls open when I (and probably everybode else
WD> this side of the pond) see what the GOP candidates are doing. We can't
WD> believe our eyes ... and ears ... and don't understand that anyone in
WD> their right mind could even contemplate voting for what's on the
 WD> podium.

Todays US politics is akin to one of todays reality shows here IMHO.

WD> I noticed that in many, if not all, of the debates Trump was always in
WD> the middle which is a strategic advantageous position. How was that
WD> decided? By luck or by dollar? [I'm even surprised FOX is allowed to
 WD> broadcast].

Don't get me started on FOX news. As I was mentioning to David FOX news is
notorious here for coloring or skewing their presentation of the news. I
try to somewhat balance my intake of the national news by accessing both
foriegn and domestic news sources.

WD> The most appealing to me in the GOP-side is Rubio, he has a European
WD> flair to it I feel but I'd never vote for him anyway. Due to their
WD> behaviour in the debates none of the Republican candidates deserve to
 WD> win in the end.

WD> Let's look at the Dems ... Bernie or Hillary ... look how they both
WD> are usually referenced by their first names while the GOP-ers are
WD> referenced by their last name.

WD> Bernie is giving Hillary a good whacking and by doing so improving her
WD> campaign by forcing her to get into subjects where otherwise she'd
WD> stay silent about. His plan looks good and appealing but it cannot be
WD> financed. I saw the finance plan and it will never get through
WD> Congress, not even a hypothetically liberal dominated Congress. It is
WD> unsellable. Also over the weeks I see he's slowing down, the man is 78
WD> FCOL and cannot keep this hectic life up, he'll die from a heart
WD> attack soon. Does the US want a 79yr old President? Most people have
WD> already been retired for 15 years then. [pls no crap about Reagan and
 WD> his age]

WD> Hillary definitely is the better politically schooled because of the
WD> work she did prior to Bill's presidency, because of the work she did
WD> "during" his presidency, then her tenure as Secretary of State. She's
WD> also better politically schooled than any of the GOP candidates.

WD> However, when I hear her speech I hear a 20yr old style of addressing
WD> the people, it sounds ... ehr ... old style. "Where have I heard that
 WD> before?"

WD> My vote goes to Hillary, she's the better politician with a way
WD> broader view than any of the others of the spectrum of issues on a
 WD> worldwide level.

WD> Plus, I would like to watch the "Today's Show" with all the jokes
WD> about Hillary in the oval office with all these hunks of secret
WD> service guys Chippendale-style while bill is upstairs in the mansion
WD> "entertaining" the Mexican maid and smoking cigars with her.

WD> The real race probably will be Trump vs Hillary the way it now looks
WD> and I cannot imagine Trump ever winning with so many disgruntled
 WD> Republicans.

WD> What also troubles me is that people have said they'll write-in
WD> Bernie's name ... that would be a serious mistake because it would
WD> undercut the chances for the Dems to keep the White House.

WD> My biggest question is: 300 million Americans and this is all you can
 WD> come up with?

WD> Boy, am I glad I don't "have to" vote in that election.

I guess that makes me sad that I have to then huh?

Seriously, I agree on who the primary contenders are likely to be. Neither
really overwhelms me with confidence. One of the key issues for me is that
international relations and the person's capability to effectively contend
with international issues.

For some time now I have looked at US politicians as (Sudo) US company
employees. Which seems reasonable considering the part that us companies play
these days in US politics.

Thanks for your input Ward.
