used as a red herring - to divert attention away from the real

I'll re-post part of a message posted in this forum
so as to remind Earl Croasmun why Ross Cassell ordered

All sysops have the power to use censorship as a means
of running their BBS.  That does not mean they should.
But certainly they can.  And it is quite apparent that
Ross Cassell does, including through Ed Koon (and other
willing dupes of the NAB).  With the full blessing of
Janis Kracht.

Janis Kracht's "if a user" nonsense will be ignored for the moment,
as it is just that.  The discussion is about censorship.  Not "if a
user did this" or "if a user did that".

Ross Cassell is _not_ the editor/moderator of the Fidonews.
As such, Ross Cassell had _no_ legitimate authority to order
any sysop to remove the access of any participant of that
echo.

By complying with Ross Cassell's order, Ed Koon made himself
a stooge.  A stooge of Ross Cassell.  My, my.  Hard to imagine
a sysop not being in control of his own board.  But it's true.

Here is how things work in zone 1 -

When the "feedcutter of fidonet" (Ross Cassell) orders a sysop
to cut the feed of a participant, that sysop had better listen.
Or else that sysop will wind up being the victim of a feed cut
himself.  That is the way the zone 1 dictatorship works.  Do as
the monkey says, or it is "off with your head"!

Of course, the monkey would prefer if all his stooges would
cut the feed of miscreants pre-emptively so as not to have to
worry about doing it later.  But hey.  A monkey can't always
get his banana in advance ...
