satellite access has its own problems... the main reason why it is not embraced
in other locations is due to the speed problems... it requires POTS uplink or
possibly radio but the downlink traffic takes longer time than a dialup POTS
request and download... once the download starts, it is generally ol but for
common access stuffs, it is alright one way but not the other... of course,
this also depends on the bird and the service being offered by that bird... can
you give more specifics that can be verified by public search methods??

many times that's not really good but it is better than what came before...

any more?? it should actually be better know if everyone believes in the
commercialazition stories... are you saying that going "private" (aka
commercial) is actually worse??

hummm... sounds like the hughes native satellite feed... but of course, they
own most all the birds and lease feed most every satellite company around...

i won't deny that there's a large cost... the real question is how much is
already laid and dark... i have, somewhere here in my file base, a document
that is 15 to 20 years old that speaks of dark fiber laid all over the place...
i can't say that it only covers the US nor can i say that it covers places
outside the US... all i remember about it is that it talks about many companies
laying a lot of fiber and hoping to sell it for links later on... AFAIK, that
fiber is still very dark and in place as it was originally laid...

they can take my copper over my dead body! at least copper works for analogue
comms when everything else is dead... unless the copper is cut but then it only
takes a simple crimp splice to reocnnect it... fiber takes a bit more than
that...

sounds like europe... their stuff is now privatised and offers more options but
in the beginning, it was one or two companies and things were tight to begin
with... a lot of this was covered in the snooze and other news outlets way back
when...
