I will be helping the Mormons, but not in becoming a better Mormon. A lot of
them will vote Trump, that about says enough ...
 
You know, let me delve into religion. (I'm sorry Bjorn, you can skip this)
 
I don't know what it takes to become a Rabbi, but always having lived in a city
with a very large Jewish community, I take it it isn't easy and takes years of
study.
 
I don't know what it takes to become a Muslim scholar, but having lived in a
city with a large Muslim community, I expect it it isn't easy and takes years
of study.
 
In order to become a catholic priest, after high school one needs to go to
seminary for 3 or 4 years I think. Then one needs to go to college and earn a
Master's degree in theology, then one can become a priest.
 
With the Mormons when a kid fresh out of highschool, mostly home-schooled with
the barest minimum of social and other skills, decides to become a Mormon
missionary, he/she is sent at that age for 3 months to MTC in Provo UT
(Missionary Training Center). After 3 months the boys then, barely 18, receive
the title "Elder" and are considered people of high standing while the girls
are called "sister" (and hence are discriminated again as it sounds of lesser
importance). Then they leave for 2 years ... Now I'll grant that it's a
incredible learning experience when you're transposed from a corn-farm in Iowa
and dumped in a slum in Calcutta ... The purpose is "to preach the ghospel"
(without any formal training in a country where there's no demand for it).
After surviving that for 2 years without mammy or daddy being able to bail you
out ... it does breed stamina. But as a religious scholar they are
insignificant.
 
After the mission they qualify for free tuition at BYU: Brigham Young
University in Provo UT too.
 
Now these kids are not any more stupid than other kids, but the social control
on them is devastating, it is as good as impossible to escape once you're
caught in the web. So the question is valid whether it is a religion or a cult.
 
They have to finance their mission themselves, which is also part of the
education. Their time at BYU is financed by the LDS-church.
 
LDS-members affiliated to a certain church, pay "fifths". That means every
month they donate 1/5 of their gross income to the church and even pay the
income-taxes on it. The LDS-church is incredibly rich ... deeper than the sea.
 
So it frightened me a lot 4 years ago that there was a mormon presidential
candidate, just as it frightens me that Trump will get the GOP nomination.
Lucky enough, there weren't enough Mormons ... yet ... because they will vote
blind. But it is the fastest growing cult/religion in the world ... especially
South America, Africa and parts of Asia.
 
Now the thing that really kills me is that the Mormon equivalent of a parish is
called "a Ward" ... :-)
