Bartenders do not have a choice.  They are paid to do a job.
If the establishment allows smoking, bartenders have to put up
with customers who like to smoke.  Even if it affects their own
health in a negative way.  Same thing with others who have to
work in such environments.

Smokers do not have a right to smoke anywhere they damn well please.
Non-smokers have rights.  And that includes the right to breathe
clean air.  That is why state and local governments have passed laws
and ordinances banning smoking in public places.  Private facilities
have also banned smoking, for obvious reasons.

That does not mean that smokers are forced to give up smoking.
Even though they should.  Smokers are free to smoke in the privacy
of their own home.  Smokers are free to also invite others to share
a smoke in places of residences, as always.  But nobody should be
forced to harm themselves by breathing in noxious fumes created
by those who smoke cigarettes and other tobacco products.

There is a difference between "considerate" and "polite".  Most
people these days are non-smokers.  Especially young people.  It
used to be, decades ago, that smoking was "cool".  Everybody did
it.  Smoking was the "in" thing.  Movies and Hollywood.  But now,
smoking is for losers.  Nobody likes to be around smokers, and
most people try to avoid places that allow smoking.

There are times when it cannot be helped, as there are still some
folks who remain hardcore smokers and are unwilling to quit.  And
not all places are smoke-free.  Also, there are times, such as
family reunions, where some of your friends and relatives who are
smokers will be present.  As such, the world is not perfect.  Yet.

Your car continued to stink even though you were not smoking when
others were present inside your car.  You may have been being "polite"
by not smoking, but you were far from being "considerate."

It takes a lot of work, and time, to decontaminate a car/truck of
the smoking stench.  At least 30 days.  And that is if you know how
to do it.  I've been there.  Done that.  Do not care to do it again.

The stench is still in your clothes.  It is in your breath.

There is nothing "polite" about smoking.  The smell of smoke
on one's clothes, or one's breath, is nauseaus.  For non-smokers,
that is a complete turn-off.  If you want to make friends, ditch
the cigs, buy yourself a brand new wardrobe, and hit the town.
And stay away from folks who smoke.

You would be surprised as to how many have.  Especially in the
past few years.  The non-smoking movement is sweeping this country.
Fast.  Not just in Louisiana, but everywhere.  The city of Alexandria
has banned all places, including bars and casinos, from allowing
smoking.  The city of Baton Rouge almost did the same a few weeks
ago, the city council voting to a tie, 7-7, on the matter, which
will be brought up again very soon.  The forces of Good are winning
in the state of Louisiana, as they are almost everyplace else.
Smoking in casinos in the state of Mississippi is no longer allowed.
Not just in the restaurants, but also the bars.  Smokers have no
place to run, and nowhere to hide ...

Except in one place.  As far as I know, places that sell fine
cigars have a special room where one can go to enjoy a good smoke.
But, you do have to buy a cigar.  And you might have to share the
room with others who are also enjoying a good smoke ...

Except in hospital parking lots.  Unless you are a doctor
or a nurse.  Then you might be able to get away with it.
