Timothy McVeigh blew up a truck bomb, killing 168 men, women and
children inside a federal building.  He was caught, and was about
to be released, when one eyewitness finally stepped forward and
decided to talk.  McVeigh was tried, convicted, and sentenced to
death.  He never expressed any remorse for his actions.  At the
time of his execution (death by lethal injection), there was a
very small group of protestors, about a half-dozen people.  They
were not protesting the execution of Timothy McVeigh, but rather
the death penalty itself.  After the juice was administered to
the killer, and the killer declared dead, none of the protestors
shed a tear.

Timothy McVeigh deserved what he got.  That is how the vast
majority of people in the USA felt then, and feel today.  I have
not met a single person who has expressed any regret about the
state executing Timothy McVeigh.  And a lot of those people are
"gun totin' Americans", many of whom would have gladly offed
McVeigh themselves.

Nothing can ever bring closure for the families of those who
have lost loved ones due to McVeigh's actions.  The ohly solace
that can be given them is the knowledge that McVeigh is dead and
no longer allowed to breathe the same air as everybody else.

Those who are nuts can be placed in homes for the criminally insane.
Permanently, if necessary.

Those who are not nuts can be placed in other homes.
Permanently, if necessary.

In both cases, the death penalty is not needed.
In both cases, society is kept safe, free from harm.

So where is the need for the death penalty?

Oh.  It is quicker than forcing people to die a slow death.
Imagine the agony, being sentenced to life in prison without
the possibility of parole, at the ripe young age of 14.  We
do try children as adults in our society.  Depending on the
state, the age can be quite low.  Until recently, we used to
execute children (the US Supreme Court made us stop that
practice).

As long as the residents are allowed to keep their smokes,
everything will be just fine.  Just fine ...
