No elist/echolist has any official status in Fidonet.

The echolist is ignored by most sysops throughout the world, in
every zone, including zone 1.

Only a very small group of people who are in control of the
echolist can elist an echo.  And only then if they have the full
blessing of their supreme leader, Janis Kracht.

There are many other examples of abuse that can be shown.
But I'll leave it at that.  For now.

Most sysops around the world have chosen not to use the echolist,
and have not done so for as long as one can remember.  That should
come as no surprise to anybody, given the joke the echolist happens
to be.

Sysops choose to carry whatever echoes they want, regardless of
what any elist/echolist says or dictates.  I doubt very many of them
even bother to read what is listed, or even care to find out.

There is no such thing as a moderator in Fidonet.  Messages are
written and posted by participants, and then reviewed.  Fidonet is
not usenet, where censorship is part of the act.

Those in charge of the elist/echolist want KONTROL - the means
to control the distribution of echoes they like, and the means to
block the distribution of echoes they do not like.

I say NO to KONTROL FREAKS!  So should we ALL!
