When I was in college, one of my friends was a student from
Pakistan.  Very religious guy.  Had a portrait of the Ayatollah
Khomeini on the wall of his home.  At a time when Iranians were
not very popular in this country.  But, like all other humans,
he had to eat.  And he took his food seriously.  Would never
eat in the school cafeteria.  And would never buy anything in
grocery stores.  But he did cook.  Always at home.

He had his studies, which was the only thing other than religion
he took seriously.  So he made good grades, and never caused any
trouble for anybody.  When he finished his classes, he drove to
an small farm about an hour's drive away, and obtained his food
source.  Not only did he get vegetables, but he also got fresh
meat.  The freshest meat one could possibly get.  Slaughtered
the animals himself.

I enjoyed many a fine meal at his house.  Kind of spicy, but
not quite as spicy as food prepared by my Saudi friend.  Anyway,
the foods that are prepared are not filled with preservatives
and chemicals.  All good, even if the source may be questionable.

But do stay away from green crawfish.  Sometimes vendors on the
side of the road try to sell green crawfish.  Those crawfish are
not edible, as they live in the sewer.  Out of towners do not
know this, and are sometimes hoodwinked.

A good spring rain can get crawfish crawling out of the swamp
and onto the roads.  Real easy to pick up and place in ice chests
for a nice treat later in the day.

Bees are not the same, producing different amounts of honey
from place to place.  There are many varieties of tomatoes, and
how they are grown also makes a difference as to how they taste.

The sauce used in Raising Canes for chicken fingers is easy to make,
as it was cribbed from a restaurant in Alabama.  I have the recipe,
as the cook posted it online for all to see.

What else is there to do in rural areas?

People will always try to find an easy way to make a buck.

Why not go to a "pick your own" farm?  The cost of peaches
having been poached is taken to account, so there are no worries.
