OK... I'm going to weigh in and will probably step on more than a few toes
here.  I've thought this out pretty clear and even reviewed some of the very
First fidonews.  I'm going to be as non-partisan as I can...

   1.  Fidonews has never, ever been a sysop only entity.  Fidonews has
       been the official newsletter for -all- users of fidonet from DAY 1
       or shall I say issue 1 volume 1.  Never, ever was it intended to be
       a sysop only product.

   2.  The Backbone.na file that is current for all echos of fidonews has
       incorrectly tagged this as an [ADM] echo.  Perhaps it's in the
       Echolist incorrect, but I don't believe that the backbone.na is a
       file that is generated by the echolist.  I think this file may be
       maintained either by Ross Cassell, or Bob Seaborne.

   3.  CG Learn, and other sysops may have marked this as a "sysop" only
       echo because the description in backone.na starts with [adm] in this
       case that does not match the spirit of this echo being that it is,
       or once was, an echo to discuss the postings in fidonet.

   4.  The description is simply wrong on two counts

       a.  This is not, never has and never was an admin echo.
       b.  Other than the text posting of occasional rules...
           this echo is more like an anything-goes chat echo and
           has very little to do with news from fidonet.

But the bottom line <drumroll>  any one who claims this is not an echo for
users is dead wrong... fidonews has by it's definition been the publication to
distribute network wide news from fidonet to sysops AND users alike.  So
general users, who were once encouraged to write articles (not just sysops) amd
would probably post user written articles today should be available to sysops
and users alike.

That's my $.48 worth (inflation has made that the modern equivalent of $.02).

If users are denyed access to this echo without just cause then that's wrong.
The [ADM] needs to be removed from the echo's description... and it should be
opened back up.

And it would be nice to see some news once again in fidonet... some good
wholesome positive news.
