Hello mark,

MvdV>>> Unlike Saddam Hussein, this idiots actually /has/ WMDs. :-(

LL>> Nuclear weapons are not WMDs.

ml> then WTF are they when a 5 megaton bomb has as much explosive power as all
ml> the explosives used in WWII???

Very destructive. But still not classified as WMDs.
Biological weapons are WMDs. Chemical weapons are WMDs.
But not nuclear weapons. Just because a weapon happens
to be destructive does not mean it is classified as WMD.

ml> consider that a 5 megaton bomb, exploded at ground level, will leave a
ml> crater about .25 miles across... damage will extend out beyond 9 miles and
ml> then there's the radiation effects to contend with... now explode that
same
ml> device at a few thousand feet and the destruction, other than the crater,
ml> is much greater...

ml> now, consider the Russian Tsar Bomb, a 50 megaton bomb detonated at 2.5
ml> miles (4km) altitude...

ml>
ml> The fireball reached nearly as high as the altitude of the release plane
ml> (6.5 miles aka 10.5km) and was seen almost 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) from
ml> ground zero. The subsequent mushroom cloud was about 64 kilometres (40 mi)
ml> high (over seven times the height of Mount Everest), which meant that the
ml> cloud was above the stratosphere and well inside the mesosphere when it
ml> peaked. The base of the cloud was 40 kilometres (25 mi) wide. All
buildings
ml> in the village of Severny (both wooden and brick), located 55 kilometres
ml> (34 mi) from ground zero within the Sukhoy Nos test range, were destroyed.
ml> In districts hundreds of kilometers from ground zero wooden houses were
ml> destroyed, stone ones lost their roofs, windows and doors; and radio
ml> communications were interrupted for almost one hour. One participant in
the
ml> test saw a bright flash through dark goggles and felt the effects of a
ml> thermal pulse even at a distance of 270 kilometres (170 mi). The heat from
ml> the explosion could have caused third-degree burns 100 km (62 mi) away
from
ml> ground zero. A shock wave was observed in the air at Dikson settlement 700
ml> kilometres (430 mi) away; windowpanes were partially broken to distances
of
ml> 900 kilometres (560 mi). Atmospheric focusing caused blast damage at even
ml> greater distances, breaking windows in Norway and Finland. The seismic
ml> shock created by the detonation was measurable even on its third passage
ml> around the Earth. Its seismic body wave magnitude was about 5 to 5.25. The
ml> energy yield was around 8.1 on the Richter scale but, since the bomb was
ml> detonated in air rather than underground, most of the energy was not
ml> converted to seismic waves. The TNT equivalent of the 50 Mt test could be
ml> represented by a cube of TNT 312 meters (1023 feet) on a side,
ml> approximately the height of the Eiffel Tower.
ml>
ml> now, what were you saying about nuclear weapons not being weapons of mass
ml> destruction???

The same as I said before. They are very destructive.
But still not classified as WMD.
