Thanks to FDR, Americans have social security.
Thanks to Harry Truman, the war in the Pacific came to an end.
Thanks to JFK, nuclear missiles in Cuba were removed.
Thanks to Jimmy Carter, the Panama Canal remains open.
Thanks to Bill Clinton, the PLO was tamed.
Thanks to Barrack Obama, the world's economy was saved.
Just think of the many wonders that Hillary Clinton will bring ...

Secretary Vance resigned *before* Carter's order was carried out.
His view was that continued negotiations were the answer, not attempted
military maneuvers.  In retrospect, Vance was proven right, given the
outcome.  But had he not resigned, Carter might have been tempted to
continue the military option, resulting in a hot war between the US
and Iran.  And a very costly war that would have been, as all of the
Americans being held hostage would have been killed by the Iranians,
and another tens of thousands of American troops in addition.

GWB hired Colin Powell to present the GWB administration's point
of view to the rest of the world, not anybody else's point of view.
And that is exactly what Colin Powell did.

To rephrase -

The job of secretary of state is to present the administration's
point of view.  And Colin Powell did it so well.  At the expense of
his own integrity.
