LL> The Christian thing to do would have been to have given them away.
LL> For free. To whoever needed them. Especially drug users and those
LL> at high risk of contracting diseases through sexual contact. What
LL> an unChristianed nation we are.

I gave plenty of them away for free... but the condom runs cost me gas
money.... had to do something to be able to afford the 125 mile one way drive
and back to get them. Sometimes I would have to go buy them at another city...
the town was so "christian" that the three drug stores there would not sell
condoms to college students. Lord forbid they promote promescuity.

It was in a sense my "mission" there. Most of the kids that were at that
school had PLENTY of money. I had to work a work-study program and compete for
many scholarships to pay my way. The only reason why I was really allowed a
car was because I needed frequent medical treatment and had to go two towns
over to see a diabetic specialist.

LL> Planned Parenthood a sizeable donation. After all, it had not been
LL> for Planned Parenthood paying for the condoms, and allowing you to
LL> steal them, you would not have had the opportunity to sell them.

I've have more than paid it forward once I got out and put my degrees to work.
I even volunteered with one of their social workers where we did nothing but go
from bar to bar and club to club on weekend nights handing out condoms.

And believe me they -knew- what I was doing... and sometimes, when they were
there would ask me to drop off a box of love-gloves to someone at
Campbellsville College (the Baptist college in the town I had to drive through
to before I got to Columbia, KY) I went to Lindsey which was the Methodist
College. I eventually transferred to Kentucky Wesleyan got a better
scholarship there... it was Methodist and in Owensboro which is the 5th largest
city in KY at the time... they had wal-mart, k-mart and plenty of sources for
love-gloves.

AP>> I also pimped out my vaccuum cleaner for $2.50 an hour...
 LL> Was it a Rainbow?

Nope a trusty Electrolux :-)

LL> Room service. Just what college students need. Pizza anybody?
LL> Just call Allen. He'll charge you an arm and a leg for it, but
 LL> you'll get your pizza ...

If I could figure out how to do it I probably would... In columbia KY there was
only one pizza business it was "Jamestown" pizza which was a mom-pop place.
They were the only show in town and they were not cheap... but the pizza was
GOOD and I mean really GOOD... the town was so religious if you ordered pizza
they always asked "Do you need a bible or know anyone that does." If you said
yes... you would get one with your pizza.

LL> What did you do to gain such privileges?

Well, unfortunately I've been a life-long diabetic. Back in those days they
did not have digital insulin pumps, 24 hour glucose monitoring systems, and the
types of insulin we have here. I had an older analog insulin pump at the time
where you had to calculate dosages on your own.

Unfortunately the local doctor could not montior or treat my diabetes to the
standards of the day. I had to go two towns over for medical treatment as no
doctor there was comfortable dealing with my insulin pump. I had to drive to
Louisville most of the time when it had to do with my pump.

Now I wear a tandem T-Slim with the Dexcom G4 built in. I literally can glance
at the device and see where my blood sugars are at any time. Heck, diabetes is
no longer an issue with my health... with the newer technology I've
consistently tested in my 3 month bloodtests as a non-diabetic for over 18
years until Obamacare came along and a case manager thought that I didn't need
CGM or an Insulin Pump and discontinued my sensors and pump supplies. They
took me off of it for 6 months and you don't know the hell I went through... I
fought to get it back. Had to switch insurance twice until I got it. that was
12 months ago... and I'm finally back to the non-diabetic range.

LL> But the control freaks (conservative Republicans and evangelicals)
LL> had a shit fit and said the state was spending too much money so
LL> managed to cut the budget in order to shut down the free condom
LL> and needles for druggies program.

That group is what is embedded in those small towns and counties. Where I went
to college is next to Rowan county. You seen how that county clerk put up a
fight over Gay marraige... they have similar local laws about condoms and stuff
as Adair County. And if they don't have laws the "local pharmacies" have
policies. Many of those counties do everything they can to keep wal-mart and
the chain pharmacies out.

Adair and Campbell Counties at that time (Lindesy was in Adair County and
Campbellsville College, the baptist one, was in Campbell County) were, and
still probably are, more religious conservative than Rowan county where the Gay
marraige clerk that made the national news months back is from.

Believe me, you have NO idea how opressive that college was. If -anyone- wore
shorts they only allowed bermuda style shorts and they had to come to the joint
of the knee. There were rules against PDAs (Public Display of Affection) of
any kind on campus and gawd forbid if you held hands.

Now the college has expanded has a nursing program and has mostly privatized.
Drove through there last month on the way to a family funeral. We stopped to
eat at the cafeteria, the food used to be home cooking all you can eat and top
notch, to find they have contracted it out to aramark and it was nasty.
Apparanently most of the "religious" restrictions are gone... the campus
population is probably 15 times what it was when I was there. Definately more
like the University of KY or Louisville in the attire of the students.

Plus they now have a wal-mart, a walgreens and a CVS. Shoot they even have a
McDonalds now... which was something we didn't have in 1992. Progress... BTW
little pizza place still there we stopped on way home the next day. Still good
people... mom and pop are now grandma and grandpa still run it. Asked us if we
needed a bible or knew anyone that did. While I'm not one to tolerate someone
constantly prostelitizing their religion to me, they ask and don't push. Nice
people... pizza still is good just wish they had beer.

Reminds me of when the bootlegger puts out the word that they were having a
"pre-raid" sale where we can go get our drinks before the sherrif does his
"symbolic" raid and busts him.

LL> Talk about Christian virtues. Money is more important than
LL> life itself. Jesus railed against people like that. And we
LL> all know what happened to her.

Yes... and it still goes on today... I bet there is a cure for Aids and
Diabetes... but there's too much money in it. If someone comes forward with a
cure... I'm sure they are slienced quickly.

LL> Since the university rewarded you so handsomely, you really should
LL> consider giving Planned Parenthood a sizeable donation ...

The Scholarship was only $500 and the semester tuition was $18,000 including
room and board. I never broke even with scholarships... I did what I could to
pay my student loans while I was there so I could keep going. I eventually
moved from Lindsey to Kentucky Wesleyan, a more prestigious college.

Like I said once out of school and working I have donated to Planned Parenthood
many times over the years. When I was well and before the brain injury I also
volunteered at the red cross as a CPR instructor, granted as an academy
instructor at my job I had to certify the officers with CPR I also volunteered
heavily at the red cross chapter. In 2012 I certified more people with CPR
than any other instructor in the state.

I can't teach CPR now for obvious reasons. As long as my health is ok and I
feel well I can give blood. I have a very rare blood type and they want my
blood :-).

Something people don't know about the Red Cross is even though the blood is
donated they sell it to the hospitals to keep their operations going.

Anyhow Lee nice chatting with you. I hope you are well.

Allen
