You are absolutely correct.

Thanks also for the Guest Editorial in Fidonews 33. Well
worth reading.  It was a good reminder of what Fidonet is/was,
and could again become.

My first thought was that YOU, had used the time left over
from the job as moderator, but then I "happened" to see who
the original author was.

Frank Vest is the previous editor/moderator of the Fidonews,
and appointed Björn Felten to his present position.  Frank
wrote the editorial before he had decided to retire from
Fidonet (and BBSing).  The views expressed by Frank are his
own, but shared by many.  Unfortunately, it is not a view
shared by all.  But that should not be our worry or concern.

By inviting those who have never experienced Fidonet, sysops
can bring an entire new generation into the fold.  Not just as
sysops, but also as active participants.  In every echo, thus
repopulating Fidonet to what it can be and should be.

I do not like to use the word "users" because of its negative
connotations.  There are other words that are better, and more
suitable.  If it makes sysops feel better, call those who are
not yet sysops as probationary sysops.  That way, everybody is
an equal.

I am busy at the moment preparing a guest editorial of my own.
Nowhere is it written that one must be an editor or former editor
to write a guest editorial.  And just think of the benefits.
By having a piece published as a guest editorial, that would
put me on the same level as two of the finest editors the
Fidonews ever had.
