Hello Matt,

How to invite new people to join Fidonet, as sysops
and/or participants, has been a question asked by many
in the Fidonet community.  And with technology having
progressed to the level it is today, it makes it much
easier for sysops to reach out to others in ways never
before imagineable.

This exchange, found between you and another sysop in
the general chat echo FN_SYSOP, expresses that thought
very well -

Such a process could be hosted by one person and would
eliminate the requirement for coordinators.  Do you think
they would permit that to happen?

You read my mind.  I have been thinking about this last
week for similar reasons as you.  I now want to write
something that would at a minimum provide this for people
seeking point status. Register via web form... Active
instantly.  I would even like to permit the ability to
subscribe / rescan from that template.

As many sysops (and others) know, the new BBS of the
21st Century is for individuals using a JamNNPTd server
coupled with their own newsreader of choice.  It is
not really a BBS, but rather a means of communication,
which is what Fidonet is really all about.  An open
means of communication.  Not closed to anyone.

The FN_SYSOP echo is a general chat echo, open to all.
Not just sysops, but to everyone who has or may have an
interest in Fidonet.  For those who are not sysops, let
us call them "probationary sysops".  That way, everybody
is an equal, with nobody being greater or lesser than
anybody else.

If you are serious about inviting new people to Fidonet,
then make every echo available for read/write access.
Including general chat echoes, such as the FN_SYSOP and
FIDO_SYSOP echoes.

And the FIDONEWS echo should also remain free for all.
No more limiting access to sysops only should be tolerated
by anybody.

It is high time for sysops around the world to end the
tyranny and LET FREEDOM RING!
