I didn't see it as a threat personally but in most people's cases perception
is their reality.

As a society we have rules and standards to keep things flowing nicely. Just
as his example about speeding we have set laws with speed limits to keep
things flowing nicely (ha!) and help keep casualties down. I get out on I-20
and while I may want to keep it pegged at around 100 I don't because of the
danger to others and myself and secondarily I do so because of the speed
limit. Unfortunately not all drivers give a crap about the rules (laws) and
speed anyway. Had a pile-up with four tractor trailers and a pickup truck
near my exit last night, killing two people. The truck driver that caused the
accident is currently in the hospital and charges are pending. He was
speeding and following one of the tractor trailers too closely.

Now of course nobody is going to get killed here over posting in the wrong
echos (although you might have thought so back in the 90s lol) but the
comparison stands. There's rules and moderators in the echos for a reason. If
you aren't interested in being a sysop why would anyone want to be in a sysop
echo in the first place unless they are just jealous that they aren't one of
the "elite" that don't exist in the first place?
