Yes, they exist. Present tense. If you go back in the thread you will see that
I mention that thanks to modern equipment that can handle voltages from 100-250
Volts and both 50 and 60 Hz, adapters exits.

Such adapters did not exist in the 60ties of the previous century. And THAT was
the time frame under discussion. Tim claimed that in the sixties, he had
watched US solders plug US razors and radios into a power socket in Germany and
see them go up in smoke.

Today. Not in the 60ties of the previous century.

There was one in the guest room of my parent's home. As early as 1965. Inside
the box was a transformer that served a dual purpose. Galvanic isolation and
voltage conversion. It had two slots. One for the European plugs and one for
the US plugs. The slot for the EU plugs was 220 Volts, the slot for the US plug
wat 110 Volt. There was no way to insert a US plug in the 220 Volt slot and
vice versa.

Of course that could have been done in 1965 as well. But that does not qualify
as "just plug in" doesn't it?
