Gregory,

Like a story my Aunt tells (she married a full blooded Navajo).  A
woman was once off the reservation shopping in town and was talking to
her father on her cell phone.  Someone rudely screamed at her... "this
is America if you want to live her learn to speak English."

The lady responded back in perfect English, "I am speaking Navajo, if
you like speaking English so much why don't you go to England?"

Many do not even realize that there was a thriving civilization here
before the settlers arrived from England.  By the time your ancestors
arrived chances are the way was already paved.  The more advanced have
always conquerd the lesser advanced.  But when you look back who
really had it better?  The Hunter/aquaraian natives or the
industrialized European settlers?

I am only 1/8th Native blood... maybe a bit more than 1/8th but still
enough to claim tribal affiliations.  I could go live on the
reservation even and being disabled would be well taken care of there.

One thing I can say is that the kids on the reservation are taught our
heritage, but unlike some other races and groups that still hold
grudges, we have let go and moved on.  We can't hold one accountable
for what their ancestors did a hundred or more years ago.  It's just
not what our Creator would want.  We have to forgive... but not
forget.  If it's forgotten it will be repeated, and there's a lot of
history that isn't taught anymore and has been removed from the books
becuase it's not politically correct.  Monuments that mark some of our
darkest times are being removed... even some have called for the
removal of Confederate monuments and graves because it offends.  We
have to keep the good and bad of history or we are doomed to forget
the lessons we were taught by them.
