Ärende: Unlisted phone numbers

I hope so - it's a bit hard to describe something you've never really concerned
yourself with.

I've never done anything with this, and so have no first-hand information. All
I know is that you generally have an option to suppress your caller-id (or
let's just say "phone number" since I'm not sure what you exactly mean) when
you call out using some special key code, but you have to apply to the telco
for that option and it costs a few dollars a month. I've never bothered and
don't know the details.

ml> that is an option these days... if you want to provide an email

You did exactly the reverse of what I did.

I have (and started with) two personal addresses, one of which I only use for
people pretty well known to me, and the other for Internet purchasing at
reputable places (booklook.de, amazon.de), and despite that have recently had a
couple of spam emails in both because the persons I email had had their
computers hacked (messages sent to everyone in the address book). In the case
of the second address, I also assume that a sales site had been hacked, and
this was confirmed after I wrote to inform the operator about the spam.

However, I only very rarely get even one spam message at either of these
addresses.

Then, I later set up several "throwaway" adddresses under ficticious names with
false data as to location, birthday and the rest. These I use to register at
Internet sites that interest me (no, I have no account at Facebook, nor do I
ever react to their messages), and are a constant source of amusement, with
people offering me $5,000,000 (five million dollars) from an inheritance,
asking for my help smuggling gold bars out of Iraq, informing me that I've won
several million British Pounds in a lottery, and sometimes greeting me in the
neme of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST (no kidding). I used to delete these sight
unseen, but have now started to collect the funniest ones.

At any rate, these are my garbage cans and collect the spam. Nice system, works
perfectly, and I have a lot of fun reading the texts sometimes, particularly
ones where I'm informed that my PayPal account has been blocked because of
manipulation and would I please confirm my data to re-instate it (I have no
PayPal account).

I would never use my personal addresses to register for anything in the
Internet, and only use one of them for purchases where true data is necessary
to enable ordered goods to be delivered.

ml> ... my other addresses are also pretty much clear but that's due to
ml> the better filtering and detection techniques used today :)

I don't intentionally filter email (but sometimes the providers give you no
choice), since I have had the experience that perfectly valid emails were
getting put in a spam file because someone happened to use some word or phrase
the filter software didn't like. I don't get a great deal of email and prefer
to filter it myself.

Cheers, Bob
