Ärende: Pvt nodes vs points
===========================
Hello Nicholas,

On Sunday September 09 2012 14:20, you wrote to me:

If there is no way for you to contact then, the logical step is to remove them.
But I'say that is not limited to Private nodes. The same goes for a regular
node that dropos out of contact. It is your duty as NC to keep your nodelist
segment accurate and up to date.

When I accepted the hat of NC280, one of the first things I did was to weed out
the dead wood. I tried to connect to all the systems listed in the nodelist.
When that failed, I flagged the system as Hold in the nodelist. Then I tried to
contact the sysop by other means. Voice, emial, whatever I could get my hands
on. My predecessor had left a list of voice numbers and email addresse, but I
found out that it was not complete. Some sysops answered the phone and told me
they had shut down their system some time - one over two years - ago abd so I
flagged them as Down. Some of the numbers did not exist an more. I flagged the
as Down as well. Same for e-mail. A few responded in a positive way and they
came back on-line.

After two month I removed all those still flagged as Down.

I regularly check the segment by polling all nodes. There are no Private nodes
in my segment.

Indeed. And checking the presence of points is the responsibility of thge Boss
node.

NB> I'm sure there are a LOT more PVT nodes in the nodelist that don't

I am sure there are a lot of non private nodes that are gone as well and nobody
bothers as well...

It is the responsibility of the NC, but some of them may not be there any more
as well...

Cheers, Michiel
