    The Fidonet Zone 1 Echolist has been Rebooted

    I posted this message earlier in the week in the Z1C echo, and
    in the ECHOLIST echo:

    As we all know Thom LaCosta's Echolist processing has been MIA
    since June 2012.

    I've kept in touch with Thom via email, and things haven't
    progressed though Thom has throughout tried to prepare to
    kickstart the Echolist processing.

    Along the path to today, Thom has suffered some setbacks
    including system failures and problems, Hurricane Sandy
    destruction, and health issues.  He's still trying to effect a
    solution.

    With his latest endeavor being stymied by problems with his
    health, we've got another volunteer who is investigating
    creating a backup system.  Ben Ritchie, 1:393/68, has been in
    contact with Dana Bell, the author of the Echolist software, and
    is working now to get the process going with creating a new
    'batch-file-from-Hell' :)

    In tonight's nodelist we'll see Ben listed as 1:1/21.  If Ben's
    processing isn't working immediately, he'll save any updates he
    receives so that he can process them once his batch file is
    operational.

    I've set up an email address here that will go to Ben's system
    as well, so people can use the email address of
    echolist@filegate.net.

    Notes:

    As of Friday evening, processing seemed to be running just fine.
    I sent in a number of test entries, then Ben had me send in some
    'real' entries.  All processed exactly as they should have.

    Good news for Moderators as well:  Ben Ritchey has extended the
    lifespan of an echo in the database from 6 months to one year.

    Warnings will be sent out 6 weeks before your data entry expires.

    Thom hasn't sent Ben the original data files that Thom has yet,
    and he may or may not do so.  Our last communication with Thom
    regarding that was that he was thinking about it, which is
    understandable.  Echolist passwords are generally not supplied
    to anyone by the echolist keeper.  So, moderators are asked to
    send in a MOD UPD in a netmail message to Echolist @ 1:1/21, or
    via email to echolist@filegate.net.  All Backbone Stars have
    been informed of this change in routing, so your routed netmails
    to the echolist database should arrive at 1:1/21's system.
